Patriot League Announces Corvias Men's Soccer Weekly Awards 10.24

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Loyola Maryland (6-5-3, 4-0-2 PL) still remains unbeaten in Patriot League men’s soccer action but American (8-5-3, 5-1-0) has moved into the top spot with 15 points, just ahead of the Greyhounds at 14 points. Colgate (10-4-1, 4-1-1) holds on to third with 13 points, while Army West Point (7-5-2, 3-2-1) rounds out the top four teams with 10 points.
 
Celebrating Senior Day, Colgate captured a 1-0 victory over Navy on Saturday bringing its overall record to 10-4-1, marking the second-straight year the Raiders have recorded 10-win seasons. It’s the first time since 1991-92 that Colgate notched back-to-back 10 win seasons. The victory also marked the 100th win of head coach Erik Ronning’s career.
 
Loyola Maryland’s seven-game unbeaten streak was extended to eight as sophomore Gabriel Carlsson hit the game-tying goal in the 88th minute of the 2-2 draw at Army West Point. The Greyhounds streak of eight games is tied with Virginia for the nation’s third-longest active unbeaten streak. For the Black Knights, freshman Rex Epps became the first Cadet since Thomas Obaseki to score nine goals during the season – a feat Obaseki did during the 1998 season – with his goal in the 28th minute to tie the game with Loyola at 1-1.
 
In Patriot League action, Loyola Maryland freshman Brian Saramago leads the League with 13 points and six goals. Teammate and classmate Barry Sharifi along with American’s Panos Nakhid leads the League with five assists. Eagle netminder Lucas Belanger has allowed three goals for a League-best 0.500 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.
 
A full week of Patriot League men’s soccer is ahead, as all 10 teams will be in action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. League play resumes on Saturday with three contests at 7 p.m. and with two on Sunday at 1 p.m.

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DOYLE TUVESSON, LEHIGH
Jr., F, Kennett Square, Pa.
Tuvesson tallied a pair of game-winning goals, helping the Mountain Hawks to a 2-0 week. On Tuesday night against Fordham, the junior broke a 1-1 tie in the 84th minute with the game-winning goal. Then on Saturday at home against Boston University, he scored the lone goal of the game in the 48th minute. Tuvesson totaled four shots on the week, with three on goal, and now has three goals in the last four games.

GABRIEL CARLSSON, LOYOLA MARYLAND

Carlsson hit the game-tying goal in the 88th minute at Army West Point to send the game into overtime and help preserve the Greyhounds’ seven-game unbeaten streak. The sophomore’s late goal allowed Loyola Maryland to tie the Black Knights 2-2 and improve their streak to eight games – tied with Virginia for the nation’s third-longest active unbeaten streak.

Ouligian anchored a Colgate defense to two shutouts in a 2-0 week, marking the team’s seventh and eighth clean sheet of the season. The sophomore also netted what the eventual game-winning goal in the 38th minute against Navy, when he headed in a corner kick.

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
WILL SMITH, LEHIGH

Smith opened his week with a three-save performance in the 2-1 victory at Fordham on Tuesday and followed up with an eight-save clean sheet at home against Boston University on Saturday. The eight saves tied the freshman’s season high, as he finished the week with a total of 11.

REX EPPS, ARMY WEST POINT

Epps found the back of the net, scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Stony Brook on Tuesday. The freshman once again scored the first goal for the Black Knights, tying the game at 1-1 against Loyola Maryland in the 28th minute of the eventual 2-2 draw. He now has nine goals this season, which is the most by an Army player since Thomas Obaseki scored nine goals during the 1998 season.

ETHAN KUTLER, COLGATE Sr., F, Lansing, N.Y.
Kutler scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute of the 1-0 victory over Hartwick on Wednesday in his first game back since being sidelined due to injury. He then helped Colgate secure a 1-0 victory over Navy on Saturday.
 
JUSTIN WORLEY, LEHIGH Sr., D, Reading, Pa.
Worley assisted on the game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Boston University on Saturday. He also made four head ball clearances and added four blocked shots.
 
JUSTIN STOLL, ARMY WEST POINT Fr., GK, Pompton Lakes, N.J.
Stoll collected his fourth shutout of the season by making a career-best nine saves in a 2-0 win over Stony Brook on Tuesday. He then added six more stops in a 2-2 draw with Loyola Maryland on Saturday.
 
RICKY BROWN, COLGATE Sr., GK, Laguna Hills, Calif.
Brown recorded back-to-back shutouts, marking his sixth and seventh clean sheets of the season. He made five stops against Hartwick on Wednesday and then added four against Navy on Saturday.
