Patriot League Announces The Rock Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards 11.21.16

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland junior guard Bri Betz-White and Lehigh freshman forward Gena Grundhoffer were named The Rock Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week following their performances during the second week of the 2016-17 season.
 
THE ROCK PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK 
BRI BETZ-WHITE, LOYOLA MARYLAND Jr., 5-3, G, Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Betz-White turned in a pair of 20-point performances, as the Greyhounds went 1-1 on the week. The junior tied a career-high 23 points in the 58-57 overtime loss to Fairfield -- scoring 10 in the extra frame, including a basket with five seconds remaining that gave Loyola a 57-56 lead -- and added a personal-best 10 rebounds to record her first career double-double. She then led all players with 20 points in the 69-60 win over St. Francis Brooklyn for her third straight 20-point game. Betz-White finished the week averaging 21.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, with a .519 FG% (14-of-27), and .857 FT% (12-of-14).
 
THE ROCK PATRIOT LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
GENA GRUNDHOFFER, LEHIGH Fr., 6-1, F, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc.
Grundhoffer earns her first weekly award after scoring in double figures in two-straight games as the Mountain Hawks captured a pair of wins to improve to 3-1. The freshman connected on 5-of-7 from the floor and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the line, totaling 17 points, while adding three rebounds and three assists in Lehigh’s 91-80 win over Delaware State. She followed up with her first career double-double with career-highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds, in addition to three assists and two steals, in the 68-62 win over Sacred Heart. Grundhoffer finished the week averaging 18.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.0 asp, with a .500 FG% (11-of-22), and .867 FT% (13-of-15).

CLAIRE DEBOER, BUCKNELL Sr., 6-1, F, Grosse Pointe, Mich.
DeBoer recorded two consecutive double-doubles as the Bison went 1-1 on the week. Against NJIT, she notched 22 points and 10 rebounds and followed with 11 points and 11 rebounds against North Carolina.
 
MADISON HOVREN, ARMY WEST POINT So., 5-11, F, Spokane, Wash.
Hovren tallied 19 points in back-to-back games against Albany and Yale, finishing the week with a .583 field goal percentage and a .769 free throw percentage. She also totaled 14 rebounds.
 
LAUREN MANIS, HOLY CROSS Fr., 6-1, F, Franklin, Mass.
Manis chipped in 15 points, 10 rebounds against Bryant, tallied seven points and nine boards against Quinnipiac, and closed out the week with 12 points and 10 rebounds in Holy Cross’s first win of the season against Marist. She has now recorded three double-doubles in the Crusaders’ first four games of the season.
