CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lafayette senior quarterback Drew Reed was named the Corvias Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week and Bucknell junior linebacker Ben Richard takes home Defensive Player of the Week honors when the League announced its weekly honorees on Monday afternoon.
Fordham placekicker Makay Redd was named the Special Teams Player of the Week, while Bucknell freshman running back Chad Freshnock earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Reed earned the first offensive honor of the season after throwing for 316 yards and all three of Lafayette’s touchdowns in a 24-10 victory at Central Connecticut State on Friday evening. Reed led two first quarter scoring drives to help set the tone in the Leopards opening win.
Bucknell’s dominant performance against Marist helped two of its student-athletes earn weekly honors. Richard was the Bison leader with 13 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss (TFL) and 2.0 sacks. His TFL and sack totals were both career-highs. Freshnock helped a strong Bison ground attack, as he carried 12 times for 51 yards.
Redd was perfect at Navy, hitting from 30, 23 and 31 yards in the loss to FBS opponent Navy.
Georgetown’s senior quarterback Tim Barnes threw a career-high four touchdown passes in the Hoyas’ 38-14 victory against Davidson to earn honorable mention. Senior punter Harry McCollum was also a weekly honorable mention, averaging 45.0 yards per punt to help give GU strong field position throughout the day.
Colgate’s senior linebacker Charles Cairnie makes the weekly honor roll after leading all Patriot League defensive players with 15 tackles in the Raiders loss to Syracuse on Friday. Freshman teammate Abu Daramy led Colgate with 134 all-purpose yards, averaging 20.8 yards per kickoff return to earn honorable mention.

Offensive Player of the Week
Drew Reed, Lafayette, Sr., QB, 6-1, 195, Lakeland, Tenn./Arlington
Reed led Lafayette to a season opening, 24-10, victory over Central Connecticut State, completing 31-of-42 passes for 316 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers. Reed connected with junior wide receiver Matt Mrazek on touchdown passes of 18, 21 and 15 yards, while completing passes to eight different targets in Friday’s victory. It was the third 300-plus yard performance of Reed’s career, as he also eclipsed the 5,000 career yards mark, moving into sixth place on Lafayette’s all-time passing yards list (5,233 yards).
Defensive Player of the Week
Ben Richard, Bucknell, Jr., LB, 6-1, 240, Coatesville, Pa./Herriman (Utah)
Richard posted a team-high 13 tackles and career-highs with four tackles for loss and two sacks, helping Bucknell to a 26-10 victory at Marist on Saturday. He also broke up a pass. Richard and the Bison defense forced six turnovers, the most by a Bucknell team since 2011, while also registering six sacks to help the team start the season 1-0.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Makay Redd, Fordham, Sr., PK, 6-1, 225, Alamo, Calif./Monte Vista
Redd went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, connecting from 30, 23 and 31 yards in Fordham’s opening loss at Navy. Redd also made his lone PAT attempt to lead the Rams with 10 points. Redd went 8-for-12 on field goals and 40-for-44 on extra points in 2015.
Rookie of the Week
Chad Freshnock, Bucknell, Fr., RB, 6-0, 210, Middletown, N.J/Middletown North
Freshnock made his debut with 51 yards on 12 carries in Bucknell’s 26-10 victory at Marist on Saturday. He received his first carries late in the first and ended up second on the team in carries and yards, helping the Bison outrush the Red Foxes by 98 yards.
Honorable Mention
Tim Barnes, Georgetown, Sr., QB, 6-3, 205, Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional
Barnes, making his first start at quarterback since his freshman season, set career-highs in passing yards (215), completions (26) and touchdowns passes (4) to help the Hoyas defeat Davidson, 38-14.
Charles Cairnie, Colgate, Sr., LB, 6-5, 245, Wooster, Ohio/Wooster
Posted a career and game-high 15 tackles in No. 16/21 Colgate’s loss at Syracuse on Friday evening. It was the second straight game that Cairnie set a career-high in tackles after having made 13 in the Raiders NCAA quarterfinal game at Sam Houston State last season.
Harry McCollum, Georgetown, Sr., P, 6-3, 190, Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator
McCollum averaged a 45.0 yards per punt, including a long of 51 yards to help Georgetown flip field position during a scoreless first quarter.
Abu Daramy, Colgate, Fr., 5-10, 185, Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South
Daramy led the Raiders with 134 all-purpose yards in his collegiate debut, averaging 20.8 yards on six kickoff returns. He also had a nine-yard punt return.
