Patriot League Announces Corvias Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards (10.16.2017)
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Colgate and Navy share the top spot in the League with a record of 5-0-1. The Raiders defeated Bucknell 3-2 last Saturday while the Mids picked up a 0-0 draw against Army West Point last Friday.
Boston University’s McKenna Doyle (Jr., F) netted two goals in the 3-0 decision against Loyola Maryland last Saturday. The junior forward tallied two insurance goals in the span of 12 minutes, first in the 56th minute then again in the 68th minute. Defensively, Rachel Bloznalis (Gr., D) and Amanda Fay (Fr., GK) led the Terriers to two shutouts last week, limiting Harvard and Loyola Maryland to a combined seven shots on goal.
Kelly Crowley (So., M) scored her first goal and game-winner of the season in the 39th minute to push the Crusaders past American in last Saturday’s 1-0 decision. The sophomore also tallied an assist in the 3-2 loss versus Dartmouth last Tuesday. Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Cashion picked up her fifth shutout of the season and registered 10 saves last week, six against Dartmouth and four versus American.
Sophomore midfielder Mara Cosentino assisted two of Colgate’s three goals in last Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Bucknell. Cosentino first chipped a ball 18 yards out to Eliza Doll (Sr., M) to tie the game 2-2 then she connected in a passing sequence with Abby Sotomayor (So., F) to put the Raiders on top 3-2. The Raiders’ three tallies were the first goals the Bison have conceded in League play this season.
Army West Point and Navy squared off in the Star Game last Friday. Goalkeepers Sydney Fortson (So., GK) and Sydney Cassalia (Fr., GK) each picked up shutouts in the 0-0 draw. Fortson recorded four saves while Cassalia registered six.
Lehigh defeated Lafayette in a 2-0 decision last Saturday with goals coming from Ally Friedman (Fr., D) and Maggie Wadsworth (So., M/F).

ABBY SOTOMAYOR, COLGATE So., F, Colchester, Conn.
Sotomayor netted a pair of game-winners last week for the Raiders to stretch their unbeaten streak to nine-straight games. The sophomore collected a pass from Mara Cosentino (So., M/F) and buried the ball into the back of the net in the 87th minute of play.

The sophomore had a hand in two of the three goals scored in the 3-2 win over Bucknell last Saturday. Cosentino found Eliza Doll (Sr., M) in the 64th minute then dished a pass to Abby Sotomayor in the 87th minute. She leads Colgate in points this season with 16.

RACHEL BLOZNALIS, BOSTON UNIVERSITY Gr., D, Upton, Mass.
Bloznalis guided the Terrier defense to two shutouts last week against Harvard and Loyola Maryland respectively. Boston U. held Harvard and Loyola to a combined seven shots on goal while also limiting the Crimson to just two corner kicks.

SAM MILLER, LEHIGH So., GK, Commack, N.Y.
Miller earned her 19th shutout of her career and seventh of the season. The sophomore made five saves including a penalty-kick save in the 83rd minute of play to preserve the Mountain Hawks 1-0 lead. She has now saved three-of-four penalty kicks this season and owns a 0.54 goals against average.

ANNA HEILFERTY, BOSTON UNIVERSITY Fr., F, Falls Church, Va.
The rookie scored both game-winners in last week’s victories over Harvard and Loyola Maryland. Heilferty currently leads the Terriers in points with 12 on the season.

SYDNEY CASSALIA, ARMY WEST POINT Fr., GK, Omaha, Neb.
Cassalia registered six saves including three in the 90th minute or later at last Friday’s 0-0 draw against Navy. The rookie recorded her fifth shutout of the season against a Navy offense that is ranked first in the League in goals per game.
KELLY CROWLEY, HOLY CROSS So., M, San Marino, Calif.
Crowley scored her first goal and game-winner of the season last Saturday in the 1-0 decision against American. The sophomore midfielder struck the ball from 25 yards out in the 39th minute to put the Crusaders on top.
ALYSSA RIPORTI, LEHIGH Sr., D, Scotch Plains, N.J.
Riporti anchored the Lehigh backline in last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Lafayette playing all 90 minutes and limiting the Leopards to just five shots on goal. The Mountain Hawk defense has allowed one goal or fewer in 12-of-14 games this season.
