CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – American earned a pair of victories, including a 3-2 win over Holy Cross to remain unbeaten in League play to help earn three of the Corvias Patriot League Field Hockey Player of the Week awards. Junior midfielder Rafaela Rubas earned her first offensive player of the week nod, junior defender Anna Groschinski earned her second defensive player of the week and junior goalkeeper Maura Jacobs earned her third goalkeeper of the week award to round out the American trio. Lehigh freshman forward Drew Pecora earned her first Corvias Rookie of the Week honor.
Bucknell sophomore forward Brittany Willwerth and Boston University junior defender Ally Hammel each earned weekly honorable mention for their play, joining Holy Cross sophomore goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante.
AMERICAN AND BOSTON U. REMAIN UNBEATEN IN LEAGUE PLAY
American erased a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Holy Cross, who had been previously unbeaten in League play, on Saturday morning in Washington, D.C. American is now 3-0 in League play. Boston University jumped out to a 4-0 lead, going on to win 5-1, on Friday afternoon against Colgate to move to 2-0 in League play. The Eagles and Terriers meet on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Boston, Mass.
LEAGUE PLAY CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND
League play continues on Friday when Lehigh hosts Lafayette at 7 p.m. in a match up that will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network. Saturday morning features a pair of League games, including a rematch of last season’s Patriot League Championship Game, when Boston University hosts American at 11 a.m. The Terriers and Eagles are the last two unbeaten teams in League play. Bucknell will also host Colgate on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Both games will be streamed live on the PLN.

Corvias Offensive Player of the Week

Rubas scored the game-winner in the 63rd minute of American’s comeback win over Holy Cross on Friday to help the Eagles remain unbeaten in League play. The junior midfielder also scored a goal in American’s 3-2 victory over Longwood on Sunday afternoon to earn her first offensive player of the week honor this season.
Corvias Defensive Player of the Week
Annaka Groschinski, American, Jr., D, Niederkruechten, Germany/St. Wolfhelm Gymnasium
Groschinski led American’s defense during a 2-0 weekend, while contributing five points, including the game-winning goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory over Longwood on Sunday afternoon. Against Holy Cross, Groschinski scored the Eagles’ first goal off a penalty corner to start a 3-0 rally to earn the comeback win over the Crusaders. Her goal against Holy Cross was the first of her career.
Corvias Goalkeeper Player of the Week
Maura Jacobs, American, Jr., GK, New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff
Jacobs earned two victories, including a 3-2 decision against Holy Cross on Friday to help American remain unbeaten in League play. Jacobs made two saves against the Crusaders, while allowing two goals. The junior also made five saves, while allowing two goals, in a victory over Longwood on Sunday.
Corvias Rookie Player of the Week
Drew Pecora, Lehigh, Fr., F, Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace
Pecora scored both of Lehigh’s goals in a pair of losses this weekend. Against Bucknell, the freshman forward scored at the 16:30 mark off a penalty corner for the Mountain Hawks lone goal in a 3-1 loss. Against Yale, she scored early in the second half. Pecora now has three goals and one assist on the season.

Brittany Willwerth, Bucknell, So., F, New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot
Willwerth had five points during a 2-0 weekend for Bucknell. The sophomore forward had two assists in Bucknell’s 3-1 win over Lehigh on Friday, before adding one goal and one assist in the Bison’s 4-2 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon.
Ally Hammel, Boston University, Jr., D, Duxbury, Mass./Loomis Chaffee
Hammel scored a pair of goals in Boston University’s 5-1 victory over Colgate on Friday. Against No. 2 Duke, Hammel and the defense limited the Blue Devils to just 10 shots in a 5-1 loss. She also scored the team’s lone goal against Duke.
Marcia LaPlante, Holy Cross, So., GK, Waasis, New Brunswick/St. Mark’s
LaPlante set a career-high with 19 saves against No. 14 Harvard in a 7-0 loss. She also made eight saves and allowed three goals in a loss to American.
