Patriot League Announces Corvias Football Players of the Week (10.23.17)

Breneman, Jonov and Mevis earn weekly honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Colgate freshman quarterback Grant Breneman won Patriot League football weekly honors for the fourth-consecutive week, being selected as the Corvias Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week for his role in the Raiders’ 45-7 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. Breneman earned his second offensive and third rookie of the week honor.
 
Bucknell senior cornerback Colin Jonov was voted Patriot League Football Corvias Defensive Player of the Week after returning an interception 95 yards for a touchdown to seal an overtime victory at Lafayette. Fordham freshman placekicker/punter Andrew Mevis was chosen as the Corvias Special Teams Player of the Week after going 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and averaging 40.5 yards on eight punts in a win over Georgetown.
 
Fordham junior wide receiver Austin Longi was selected as a weekly honorable mention after his 13-catch, 150-yard and one-touchdown performance. Lafayette senior linebacker Brandon Bryant, the three-time defending defensive player of the week, was tabbed as an honorable mention selection for his 17-tackle performance. Colgate junior linebacker Dillon Deluliis returned an interception for a touchdown and Georgetown sophomore defensive lineman Khristian Tate had eight tackles and 1.5 sacks to also earn weekly honorable mention picks. 
 
The Patriot League football Corvias Players of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their own student-athletes.

Corvias Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week
Grant Breneman, Colgate, Fr., QB, Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff
Breneman completed 16-of-24 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for an additional 36 yards and two scores to help Colgate defeat Holy Cross, 45-7, on Saturday afternoon. The freshman signal-caller has thrown multiple touchdown passes in each of his last five games. He has also gone six consecutive games without an interception, spanning 154 pass attempts.
 
Corvias Defensive Player of the Week
Colin Jonov, Bucknell, Sr., CB, Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional
Jonov intercepted a pass on the first play of overtime and returned it 95 yards to lead Bucknell to a 13-7 victory over Lafayette on Saturday evening. The senior linebacker also had two tackles and 1.0 tackle for loss. Jonov’s score was the sixth-longest and longest ‘pick six’ in Bucknell program history.
 
Corvias Special Teams Player of the Week
Andrew Mevis, Fordham, Fr., PK/P, Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community
Mevis went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts, connecting from 30, 31 and 31 and accounted for 10 of the Rams’ 17 points in a victory over Georgetown on Saturday. The freshman also punted eight times for 324 yards (40.5 yards/punt) with a long of 51 yards and three downed inside the Georgetown 20-yard line. He also had two touchbacks in five kickoffs.
 
Honorable Mention
Austin Longi, Fordham, Jr., WR, Stamford, Conn./Greenwich
Longi set career-highs in receptions (13) and receiving yards (150), while also scoring a touchdown to help Fordham defeat Georgetown, 17-9, and snap a five-game losing streak. The junior wide receiver now has 15 career receiving touchdowns, ninth-best in Fordham history. Longi also returned three punts for 21 yards in the victory.  
 
Khristian Tate, Georgetown, So., DL, Warner Robins, Ga./Covenant Academy
Tate tied a career-high with eight tackles, while also registering 1.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry. The sophomore defensive lineman led a defensive front that allowed just 36 yards on the ground and recorded 2.0 sacks in the fourth quarter when Fordham was trying to run out the time.
 
Dillon Deluliis, Colgate, Jr., LB, Yardley, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep
Deluliis returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown to help spark the Raiders in a 45-7 victory over Holy Cross on Saturday. It was Deluliis’s second-consecutive week with an interception to go along with five tackles and 1.0 TFL.
 
Brandon Bryant, Lafayette, Sr., LB, Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East
Bryant had a game-high 17 tackles and 1.5 TFLs and the Lafayette defense held Bucknell’s offense scoreless and to 208 yards of total offense in a 13-7 overtime loss to the Bison on Saturday night. Bryant is averaging 13.6 tackles per game to lead the League and rank second in the FCS.
