Patriot League Men’s Soccer Major Awards and All-Patriot League Team Announced (11.6.17)

 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Loyola Maryland claimed four of the six Patriot League Men’s Soccer major awards on Monday afternoon, two days after capturing the regular-season title and hosting duties for the upcoming League Championship.  The Greyhounds’ sophomore midfielder Barry Sharifi was selected as Patriot League Midfielder of the Year, while freshman goalkeeper Chase Vosvick earned Patriot League Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year honors. Loyola Maryland Head Coach Steve Nichols earns his second-consecutive Patriot League Coach of the Year award.
 
Army West Point sophomorer defender Zac McGraw was tabbed as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Lehigh junior forward Mark Forrest earns Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year.
 
The Greyhounds paced the way with seven student-athletes chosen for the All-Patriot League team, followed by the Boston University and Lehigh with six selections apiece. The three All-Patriot League teams were also made up of selections from Army West Point (5), Bucknell (3), Holy Cross (3), Colgate (2) and Lafayette (2).
 
Voting for the Patriot League All-League teams and major awards was conducted by League head coaches, who could not vote for their own student-athletes or themselves.
 
Loyola Maryland’s Sharifi and Vosvick both earned first-team honors and were joined by junior midfielder Gabriel Carlsson, sophomore forward Brian Saramago and junior defender A. Mickey Watson. Carlsson, Saramago, Sharifi and the Greyhound offense led the League in points this season with 89 (27 goals, 35 assists). Vosvick holds a .763 save percentage, while allowing 1.11 goals per game with help from Watson and the Loyola Maryland backline. Saramago earns his second-consecutive first-team honor while Sharifi and Carlsson both pick up their second all-League honor. Sophomore defender Sam Carter and sophomore forward Josh Fawole represent Loyola Maryland on the second-team. Carter, Fawole and Watson each earn their first all-League selection.
 
Boston University had three members on the second-team, including sophomore goalkeeper Michael Bernardi, freshman midfielder Toti Knutsson and senior defender Adam Sheikali. The Terriers also placed three student-athletes on the third-team with freshman midfielder Peter Kargbo, freshman defender Elias Lampis and sophomore forward Matt McDonnell. Each of the Terriers’ six selections earned their first all-League honor this year.
 
The 2017 Offensive Player of the Year and current NCAA Division I points leader junior forward Mark Forrest (15 goals, 8 assists) earns a spot on the first-team for his second all-League honor, along with junior midfielder Alex Greene and senior forward Doyle Tuvesson. Senior defender John Marc Charpentier earned second-team honors, while freshman defender Steve Bednarsky was selected to the third-team. Bednarsky, Charpentier, Greene and Tuvesson pick up their first all-League honors.
 
Army West Point’s 2017 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Zac McGraw was a first-team selection for the second-straight year. Senior midfielder Marcos Arroyo, sophomore forward Rex Epps and sophomore goalkeeper Justin Stoll each picked up second-team honors. Epps’ and Arroyo's selection was the second of his career, while Stoll picks up his first all-League honor. Keenan O'Shea rounds out the Black Knights honorees, being named to the third-team.
 
Three Bucknell student-athletes were named to the third-team including sophomore midfielder Nick King, junior defender Tyler Peterson and freshman forward Matt Thorsheim. Thorsheim leads the Bison with 14 points on the season, netting five goals and dishing out four assists. All pick up their first all-League honors.
 
Holy Cross earned three spots on the all-League teams with senior midfielder Justin Carfora and senior forward Arno Rupp being named to the second-team and senior midfielder Yuji Callahan named to the third-team.  Callahan and Carfora each pick up their second all-League honor, while Rupp earns his first.
 
Colgate’s points leader Aram Ouligian (7 goals, 2 assists) was named to the first-team for the his third straight all-League honor, along with Raiders assist leader Jared Stroud (9 assists) who picks up his second-consecutive first-team selection and third all-League honor of his career.
 
Two Lafayette student-athletes were named to the second-team with senior defender Christian Moyse earning his third-straight second-team honor and freshman forward Evan Vare picking up his first all-League accolade.
