Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Tournament Seeding Scenarios
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League women’s lacrosse regular season concludes this weekend with five games – one on Friday and four on Saturday – all featured on the Patriot League Network (PLN).
Loyola Maryland has already clinched the Patriot League regular-season championship and will host the semifinals and Patriot League Championship Game at Ridley Athletic Complex on May 5 and 7 regardless of what happens on Saturday against Army West Point. Navy has already clinched the No. 2-seed and a quarterfinal bye prior to its regular-season finale at Lafayette on Saturday.
That leaves Boston University, Bucknell, Lafayette and Lehigh to battle for seeding, with home field advantage for the quarterfinal round – scheduled for Tuesday, May 2 on the PLN - at stake.

Wins vs. American, Boston U., Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Navy
Navy (12-4, 7-1 PL): The Mids have guaranteed themselves the No. 2-seed and a bye through the quarterfinal round. They will play the highest-seeded winning team from the quarterfinals. Navy begins its Patriot League Championship in the semifinals at the Ridley Athletic Complex on Friday, May 5.

Losses vs. Loyola Maryland
Lehigh (10-5, 5-3 PL): Lehigh can clinch home-field advantage in the quarterfinals and the No. 3-seed with a win over Bucknell on Friday at 6 p.m. The Mountain Hawks could still be the third-seed with a loss if Boston University and Lafayette both lose their games on Saturday. They would still clinch a quarterfinal home game and the fourth-seed with either a Boston U. or Lafayette loss, based on head-to-head tiebreakers over both teams if they finish 5-4 in League play. In a four-way tie at 5-4 including BU, Bucknell and Lafayette, Lehigh would be No. 4 (see below). Lehigh could fall to as low as No. 5 with a loss to Bucknell, a Boston U. loss and a Lafayette win, creating a “mini-conference” with Bucknell and Boston U. (see below).
Games Remaining: at Bucknell (4.28, 6 p.m.)
Wins vs. American, Army West Point, Boston University, Holy Cross, Lafayette
Losses vs. Loyola Md., Navy, Colgate
Boston University (8-7, 5-3): The Terriers can clinch home-field advantage in the quarterfinals by defeating American on Saturday at 1 p.m. If Lehigh loses to Bucknell, Boston U. could climb as high as the No. 3-seed with a win over the Eagles, even if Lafayette defeats Navy. The Terriers defeated Lafayette head-to-head on April 8 (W, 20-16). If Lehigh wins on Friday, Boston U. would earn the No. 4 seed with a win due to their head-to-head loss against the Mountain Hawks on April 1 (L, 13-12). Boston U. would also be the No. 4-seed if Lehigh lost and Lafayette won, creating a three-team mini-conference with Bucknell and Lehigh (see below).
Games Remaining: vs. American (4.29, 1 p.m.)
Wins vs. Army West Point, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette
Losses vs. Loyola Md., Navy, Lehigh
Lafayette (10-6, 5-3 PL): The Leopards can clinch home field advantage in the quarterfinals with a win over Navy and a loss by one or both of Boston University and Lehigh. Lafayette could climb as high as No. 3 with a win and losses by the Mountain Hawks and Terriers. Lafayette could be No. 4 with a win and a loss by one of the two other 5-3 teams. If Lafayette falls to Navy and both Lehigh and Boston U. win Lafayette will be the No. 5. Lafayette could fall to the No. 6 seed if Lehigh loses to Bucknell and BU wins, based on the three-team tiebreaker results between Bucknell, Lehigh and Lafayette (
see below)
Games Remaining: vs. Navy (4.29, 1 p.m.)
Wins vs. American, Army West Point, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross

Wins vs. American, Army West Point, Colgate, Colgate,

Patriot League Tiebreaking Procedure
1. In the case of a two-way between teams in the final standings for regular season League play, the following process will be used until all ties are broken and the seeding process is completed (ties will be broken in rank order beginning with the highest seed):
A. Head-to-head competition — the higher seed will go to the team that has won the most League contests played against the other team involved in the tie (in the sport of volleyball, both sets and individual games will be considered).
B. If a tie still exists, a comparison of records will be made between the tied institutions starting at the highest possible seed and continuing through the lowest seed, if necessary.
C. Sport specific tie-breaking procedure, if any (see Sport Specific regulations).
D. Comparison of records versus out-of-League common opponents.
E. Coin flip.
2. In the case of multiple ties (more than two teams tied for the same spot), the following process will be used.
Note: The entire process for multiple-team ties must be completed. The Patriot League does not revert back to the two-way tie formula once the multiple-team tie has been resolved.
A. Records between the tied teams will be evaluated to determine if one team won more contests against the other tied institutions.
B. If a tie still exists, a comparison of records will be conducted for each team starting with the highest seed not involved in the tie and continuing through the lowest seed, if necessary.
C. Sport specific tie-breaking procedure, if any (see Sport Specific regulations).
D. Comparison of records versus out-of-League common opponents.
E. Coin flip (two teams) or draw (multiple teams).
Sport Specific Procedure - Women’s Lacrosse:
a. Record versus out-of-League common opponents;
b. Goal differential between tied teams (the goal differential can be no greater than five in any one contest).
c. Goal differential of total League competition (goal differential can be no greater than five in any one contest).
