Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (5.2.17)

Army West Point Men’s DMR Breaks 50-Year Old Program Record
The Black Knights team of Trevor Touchton, Tyrell Maddox, Nickolas Causey and Keagan Smith broke a 50-year old Army Program record with a time of 9:43.75 to finish 11th in the Men’s Distance Medley Relay Championship at the Penn Relays.
 
Boston University Women’s Relay Teams Shine at Penn Relays
The Terriers’ team of Ayodele Adesanya, Leah Fowlkes, Djenne Parris and Toria Levy broke a school record with a time of 3:34.30 to finish sixth in the 4x400 meter relay at the Penn Relays. The time is the best in the Patriot League this season.

M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emre Soybas, Lehigh, So., Sprints, Bethpage, N.Y.
Soybas won the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash at the Lehigh Games over the weekend. He finished the 400-meter dash with at time of 48.33, the fifth-best time in the Patriot League this season. Soybas finished the 200-meter dash in 22.16.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brittany Burg, Navy, Jr., Sprints, Gasport, N.Y.
Burg recorded an ECAC-qualifying time and the second-best time in the Patriot League in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:01.80, finishing 18th overall in a competitive Penn Relays field. She also ran the anchor leg of Navy’s 4x400 relay, finishing with a time of 3:58.00.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lee Bares, Army West Point, Jr., Pole Vault, Lakeville, Minn.
Bares tied his season-best and Patriot League-best 5.20 meters to finish fourth at a competitive field at the Penn Relays. The junior’s height cleared is tied for 47th in the nation.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Courtney Avery, Lehigh, Sr., Jumper, Wynantskill, N.Y.
Avery finished first of nine competitors in the prestigious High Jump Championship of America at the Penn Relays with a leap of 5-11.5 (1.82 meters). Her jump is the best in the Patriot League by more than six inches and tied for 12th in NCAA Division I.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE MALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Oluwajuwon Owolabi, Lehigh, Fr., Jumper, Westchester, Ill.
Olwolabi finished first in the triple jump at the Lehigh Games with a leap of 14.05 meters, the eighth-best distance in the Patriot League this season. He also set a personal record in the long jump, with a leap of 6.76 meters, 13th-best in the League this season.
 
M-F ATHLETIC PATRIOT LEAGUE FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Kaitlin Salisbury, Bucknell, Fr., Jumper/Sprinter, Hawthorne, N.J.
Salisbury broke a 13-year old program record in the long jump at Bloomsburg with a leap of 19-8.75 to capture first place. Her jump is the best in the Patriot League by eight inches. She also turned in the second-fastest time in the League this season in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.11.

William Melchionni, Bucknell, So., Sprints, Loudonville, N.Y.
Melchionni won the 100-meter dash at the Bloomsburg Invitational, finishing with a time of 10.74.
 
Briyah Brown, Army West Point, Jr., Thrower, New Rochelle, N.Y.
Brown finished sixth in the shot put at Penn Relays with a distance of 14.48 meters.
 
Nicholas Lombardo, Bucknell, Jr., Jumps, Darien, Conn.
Lombardo won the long jump at Bloomsburg with a leap of 24-5.5, the best jump on the Patriot League and 87th-best in NCAA Division I. His mark is the third-best in Bucknell program history.
 
Lucas Warning, Lehigh, Sr., Thrower, Mertztown, Pa.
Warning once again cleared 18 meters in the shot put, this time with a heave of 18.08 meters to finish in eighth-place in the Shot Put Championship of America at Penn Relays.
