Patriot League Announces Corvias Women’s Soccer Weekly Awards (9.11.2017)

 
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Colgate, Lehigh and Navy went undefeated last week in non-League play. The Midshipmen currently sit at the top in League standings with a record of 6-3-0. Junior forward Eleanor Pratt led the Mids offensively with two goals in the 4-0 victory against Central Connecticut while Alex Jackson (So., D) and the Mids defense held James Madison to just 15 shots with five on goal.
 
Colgate notched two wins against ACC opponent Syracuse and 2016 America East Champion, Albany. The Raiders’ underclassmen shined offensively and defensively last week. Freshman defender Syd Maxson helped limit both opponents to just one goal on 19 shots. Maxson and the Raiders defense were the first team to keep Syracuse scoreless this season. Offensively, freshman forward Ellis Miller found the back of the net in the 70th minute from 18-yards out marking her first game-winning and career goal against Albany.
 
Annika Jansa (So., M) led Lehigh on both sides of the field last week. Jansa scored both game-winners on converted penalty kick opportunities and defensively held a potent Villanova offense to just three shots on goal. The Mountain Hawks continued their defensive efforts last Sunday against St. John’s, not allowing a shot on goal for the first 42 minutes of the second half.
 
League games kick off with Navy vs. Holy Cross on Friday, September 15th at 5 p.m in Worcester, Mass.

The women’s soccer weekly awards for Sept. 4-Sept.10 went to Mara Cosentino (Colgate), Annika Jansa (Lehigh), Amanda Stratton (Lehigh), Sam Miller (Lehigh) and Ellis Miller (Colgate).

CORVIAS OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARA COSENTINO, COLGATE
So., M/F, Glastonbury, Conn.
The sophomore forward found the back of the net in the 20th minute of play last week against Syracuse. Cosentino’s goal was the first goal Syracuse has allowed in 213 minutes of play, surrendering its last goal to No. 8 Florida on Aug. 27.    
 
CORVIAS MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
ANNIKA JANSA, LEHIGH
So., M, Potomac, Md.
Jansa scored both game-winners off penalty kicks for Lehigh last week. The sophomore continued her efforts defensively by holding Villanova to just three shots on goal while not allowing a shot on goal in the first 42 minutes of the second half against St. John’s.   


CORVIAS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AMANDA STRATTON, LEHIGH, Sr., D, Dublin, Ohio
Stratton recorded an assist against St. John’s off a free kick which rebounded toward Kayla Arestivo who buried her first goal of the season. The senior defender played all 180 minutes at center back last week allowing only three shots on goal against Villanova She made an important defensive save with three minutes left in regulation to secure the Mountain Hawks’ 2-1 victory over St. John’s. 

CORVIAS GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
SAM MILLER, LEHIGH
So., GK, Commack, N.Y.
The sophomore recorded three saves in her 15th career shutout against Villanova last Friday. Miller stopped nine of 10 shots sent her way last weekend with one diving save in the 87th minute of regulation against St. John’s to keep the score 2-1.
 
CORVIAS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
ELLIS MILLER, COLGATE
Fr., F, Dallas, Texas
The rookie grabbed her first game-winning and career goal in the 2-1 victory over defending America East Champion Albany last Sunday. Miller found the back of the net in the 70th minute from the edge of the 18-yard box to lift the Raiders past the Great Danes.

HONORABLE MENTION
KAYLA ARESTIVO, LEHIGH So., M/F, Northport, N.Y.
Notched her first goal of the season in the eighth minute of play against St. John’s last Sunday. The sophomore created the second goal opportunity after being tripped in the box rewarding Lehigh with a penalty kick in which Annika Jansa converted into the game-winning goal.
 
SYD MAXSON, COLGATE Fr., D, Centennial, Colo.
Maxson and the Colgate defense held two opponents, Syracuse and Albany, to just one goal on 19 shots. The freshman continued her efforts offensively with a game-tying assist in the 40th minute of play.
 
ELEANOR PRATT, NAVY Jr., M, New Orleans, La.
Pratt scored two goals for the Mids in its 4-0 victory over CCSU on Sunday. Currently, she leads the League in goals and points through four weeks.
