Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (10.1.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland earned two awards while Colgate, Holy Cross and Lehigh each won one Patriot League men’s soccer weekly award on Monday. Lehigh’s Mark Forrest received offensive player of the week honors, while Holy Cross’ Max Krause earned midfielder of the week accolades for the first time this season. Davey Mason won defensive player of the week, while teammate Chase Vosvick received goalkeeper of the week honors. Colgate’s Ryan Krueger nabbed rookie of the week to round out this week’s honors.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mark Forrest, Lehigh, Sr., F, Douglassville, Pa.
* Forrest earned two goals and two assists last week against Cornell and Boston University.
* The senior scored in the 62nd minute with the Mountain Hawks down 2-0 against Cornell. Ten minutes later, Forrest’s cross to Luchini turned into the assist that sent the game into overtime.
* Against Boston University, the senior scored his fourth goal of the season in the 79th minute to tie the game. In overtime, Forrest provided the assist to the golden goal to Peralta in the 93rd minute.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Max Krause, Holy Cross, So., M, Korschenbroich, Germany
* Krause nabbed both the Crusaders’ goals in the team’s 2-1 upset victory over then-No. 16 UMass-Lowell.
* The goals were Krause’s first two of the 2018 season.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Davey Mason, Loyola Maryland, Jr., D, Bethesda, Md.
* Mason and Loyola Maryland’s defensive line only gave up just seven corner kicks and six shots on goal combined in a pair of wins.
* Mason earned an assist on the late game-winning goal in the shutout victory over Princeton earlier last week.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, So., GK, Phoenix, Md.
* Vosvick recorded a pair of wins last week against Princeton and Navy in goal.
* The sophomore earned a 1-0 shutout win over Princeton before only letting up one goal against Navy.
* Against Princeton he saved four shots, while he saved one shot versus the Mids.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ryan Krueger, Colgate, Fr., M/F, Wilmette, Ill.
* Krueger netted his second goal of the season in a 1-1 double overtime draw against ACC foe Syracuse, who is No. 12 in the RPI list, last Monday.
* The rookie broke the scoreless tie late in the match with a header to the back of the net in the 69th minute.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
Abdel Sanogo, Colgate, Sr., F, Plano, Texas
* Sanogo netted three goals for his first career hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Army West Point this past Saturday.

Henry Stutz, Holy Cross, Sr., GK, Cincinnati, Ohio
* Stutz led the Crusaders to a 1-0-1 week and a win over then No. 16 UMass-Lowell with three saves in the game.

Matthew Peralta, Lehigh, Jr., M, Weston, Fla.
* Peralta recorded one goal and one assist in the win over Boston University this past weekend, as he scored the golden goal in the 93rd minute.

Sam Brown, Loyola Maryland, So., M, Media, Pa.
* Brown scored one goal in both of his team’s wins over Princeton and Navy, including the game-winner at Princeton in the 85th minute.
