Patriot League Football Players of the Week Announced (10.15.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – No. 13/17 Colgate improved to 6-0 with its Patriot League single-season record third shutout in a 31-0 victory over Ivy League opponent Cornell on Saturday, helping earn two Patriot League Football Weekly awards when the League office announced honors on Monday.
 
Colgate senior running back James Holland Jr. rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown while catching five passes for an additional 33 yards and another score to earn his third Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season. Raiders’ senior linebacker T.J. Holl tied his career-high with 18 tackles to go along with 2.0 tackles for loss and a blocked kick to earn Patriot League Football Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Bucknell sophomore safety Gerrit Van Itallie blocked two punts, recovering one for a touchdown, while also adding a career-high eight tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack to claim his first career Patriot League Football Special Teams Player of the Week honor.
 
Fordham freshman quarterback Tim DeMorat broke a Rams’ freshman record with 299 passing yards, completing 14-of-23 attempts with touchdown passes of 73 and 87 yards to capture Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Bucknell freshman running back Jared Cooper, Fordham junior cornerback Jesse Bramble and Georgetown senior defensive back Ramon Lyons and junior quarterback Gunther Johnson were all selected as weekly honorable mentions.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
  
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Holland Jr., Colgate, Sr., RB, Royal Palm Beach, Fla./The King’s Academy
*Holland rushed for 119 yards and one touchdown while catching five passes for an additional 33 yards and another score in No. 17/20 Colgate’s 31-0 victory over Cornell.
*The senior running back turned in his eighth 100-yard rushing performance, while his five receptions were a career-high.
*Holland scored the Raiders first two touchdowns of the game.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
T.J. Holl, Colgate, Sr., LB, Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley
*Holl matched his career-high with 18 tackles to help Colgate to a 31-0 victory over Cornell; the team’s third shutout win of the season, while extending the team’s streak of holding its opponent without a touchdown to 20 quarters.
*The senior linebacker also had 2.0 tackles for loss of six yards, 0.5 sack and one blocked kick.
*Holl has a team-leading 60 tackles for a Raiders’ defense that has an FCS-best scoring defense (3.8 points allowed per game).
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gerrit Van Itallie, Bucknell, So., S, Mahwah, N.J./St. Joseph Regional
*Van Itallie blocked two punts, recovering one in the end zone for a touchdown in Bucknell’s 36-19 loss to Monmouth.
*His touchdown helped the Bison cut Monmouth’s lead to 16-13 at the 7:22 mark in the third quarter.
*The sophomore safety also had a career-high eight tackles along with 3.0 tackles for a loss of 14 yards, 1.0 sack and a forced fumble on defense.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tim DeMorat, Fordham, Fr., QB, Merritt Island, Fla./Viera
*DeMorat completed 14-of-23 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns in Fordham’s 43-14 victory at Lehigh.
*His 299 passing yards is a Fordham freshman record.
*DeMorat completed touchdown passes of 73 and 87 yards.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Jared Cooper, Bucknell, Fr., RB, West Chester, Pa./West Chester East
*Cooper compiled a career-high 171 all-purpose yards, rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown, while catching four passes for a career-high 84 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown reception.  
 
Jesse Bramble, Fordham, Jr., DB, Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville
*Bramble intercepted two passes and finished with four tackles in Fordham’s 43-14 victory at Lehigh.  
 
Ramon Lyons, Georgetown, Sr., DB, Orlando, Fla./West Orange
*Lyons finished with seven tackles, one interception and three pass breakups in Georgetown’s 13-6 win at Lafayette.
 
Gunther Johnson, Georgetown, Jr., QB, Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek
*Johnson rushed for both of Georgetown’s touchdowns in a 13-6 win at Lafayette to help the Hoyas start League play 2-0 for the first time since 2010.
