Colgate Raiders Claim 2018 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship

BALTIMORE — The No. 3 Colgate Raiders earned the 2018 Patriot League Men’s Soccer Championship, defeating No. 5 Army West Point, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Loyola Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex.

The lone goal came just over five minutes into the match when senior forward Steven DeLeo found the back of the net, with the assist from senior forward Freddy Jonsson.

Colgate, who claimed their eighth League title and third in-a-row, took seven shots compared to Army West Point’s 10. Freshman midfielder Oscar Pereira led the Black Knights with four shots, followed by sophomore midfielder Christian Takaki, who took three shots. Kian Alberto, a Colgate rookie midfielder, led the charge taking two shots.
Raiders’ junior goalkeeper Jacob Harris made three saves to record a shutout victory. The Black Knights’ junior goalie Justin Stoll made six saves in the loss.

With the win, Colgate captures the League’s automatic berth to the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship, and will learn their postseason matchup and destination during the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Selection Show on Monday at 1 p.m. ET.
