Navy Men’s and Women’s Program Each Capture 2018 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Titles

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —
Navy men’s and women’s programs were both crowned the 2018 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Champions on Saturday night at Lejeune Hall, sweeping the titles for the seventh year in a row after each team totaled over 900 points. Army West Point’s men’s and women’s teams each finished as the runner-up.
 
The Navy women earned their seventh championship, while the men have now captured the crown for 15 consecutive years -- every season since the squad joined the League. The Midshipmen’s 15-straight titles rank second in Patriot League history for most consecutive championships won – Army West Point’s men’s outdoor track and field team currently holds to the most with 16 straight from 1992-2007.

FRIDAY DAY THREE RECAP
Day three concluded with the Navy men’s and women’s program on top. The Mids programs combined for eight of thirteen events on the third day the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships.
 
Navy’s women’s program holds a strong lead after day with 602.5 points. The race for second-place and third-place continues between Army West Point (387) and Lehigh (354). Rounding out the field is Bucknell (260), Boston University (255), Loyola Maryland (188.5), Colgate (130), American (101), Holy Cross (86) and Lafayette (75).
 
The Mids men program finished up day two with 720.5 points. Behind the Mids is Army West Point sitting in second with 540.5 points. Bucknell currently sits third with 283 and right behind the Bison is Boston U. with 281.5 points. Loyola holds fifth with 213.5 points, Lehigh ranks sixth with 182.5 points, while Colgate (129.5), American (100), Lafayette (88) and Holy Cross (83) round out the men.

THURSDAY DAY TWO RECAP
Navy men’s and women’s program still hold the lead after the end of day two of competition. The Mid squads combined to win four events out of nine on the second day of the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships.
 
On the women’s side, the Mids have over a 100-point advantage over Lehigh with 338.5 points, while the Mountain Hawks sit in second with 203 points and are the only other team with over 200 points. Rounding out the field is Army West Point (192.5), Boston University (140), Bucknell (120.5), Loyola Maryland (119.5), Colgate (85), American (75), Holy Cross (68) and Lafayette (54).
 
As for the men, the Mids accumulated 371.5 points through 14 events. Behind the Mids is Army West Point sitting in second with 263 points, Boston U. in third with 153.5, Bucknell in fourth with 148 and Lehigh in fifth with 150.5. Loyola Maryland (111.5), Lehigh (107.5), Colgate (92), American (66), Lafayette (61) and Holy Cross (5) round out the men.

Lehigh’s Megan Fennell becomes the first Lehigh women’s diver to earn a first-place finish on the 1-meter board.

WEDNESDAY DAY ONE RECAP
The Navy men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs hold the leads after day one of the Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships. Each of the Mids programs won both relay events of the evening while Navy’s Bradley Buchter took first-place on the three-meter board.
 
The night began with the teams competing in the 200-yard medley relay. The Navy women opened the session with a first-place win for 40 team points with a time of 1:40.73. The Navy men followed suit posting first-place finish for 40-points and a new Lejeune Hall pool record with a time of 1:26.79.
 
Navy’s Bradley Buchter took home first-place in the men’s three-meter diving, scoring 20 of the team’s  points accumulated from the event itself. He scored 403.35. Navy’s Nate Belch placed second while Army West Point’s Hudson Kay placed third.
 
The evening ended with the 800-yard freestyle relay where the Navy women earned another victory in a neck-in-neck race that came down to the final leg. The Mids earned their second relay victory of the night posting a time of 7:10.63. Navy men captured their second relay victory of the night with a time of 6:26.15.
