2018 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships Preview (5.3.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –The 2018 Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held at Lafayette College’s Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex in Easton, Pa. from Friday, May 4 through Saturday, May 5. All nine men’s programs along with all 10 women’s teams will be in competition.
 
The Navy men will look for its fifth-consecutive outdoor track & field championship, while the Bucknell women, led by 2017 Patriot League Coach of the Year Kevin Donner, will go for four-in-a-row and the 17th-time as outdoor women’s champions.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE NETWORK COVERAGE: The Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be streamed live exclusively on the Patriot League Network (PLN). Coverage begins on Saturday, May 5 at 12:45 p.m. Visit here for exclusive live coverage.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP HOST: This year marks the fifth-time that Lafayette will host the Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Lafayette has previously played host to the championship meet in 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2011.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE AWARDS: Patriot League major awards will also be distributed based on the student-athletes individual championship finishes. For both the men and the women, the first place finishers in each event will be named to the All-Patriot League First Team, while the second-place finishers will make the second-team. The men’s and women’s Patriot League Coach of the Year awards will be voted on by the League's head coaches, as will the individual awards including Track Athlete, Field Athlete and Rookie of the Year at the completion of the events.
 
CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE: The meet kicks-off on Friday with the women’s 10,000-meter run beginning at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s 10,000-meter run at 9:45 a.m. Multi-events will begin at 10:45 a.m. with the women’s heptathlon and field events will begin with the women’s javelin starting at 11:00 a.m. The championships will conclude on Saturday afternoon with the women’s and men’s 4x400-meter relay, scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. and 5:25 p.m., respectively. The closing awards ceremony will begin immediately following the final event.

RETURNING PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S OUTDOOR CHAMPIONS
The 2018 Patriot League Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championships will feature defending champions in 12 of the 19 individual events, along with team members from all three relays. Bucknell senior and 2017 Field Athlete of the Year Nicholas Lombardo returns to defend his titles in the high jump and long jump, while junior teammate and 2017 Track Athlete of the Year Billy Melchionni returns to defend his title in the 400-meter dash.
