Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (2.26.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy senior starting pitcher Noah Song was named the Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week when the League office announced baseball weekly awards on Tuesday. Lehigh senior outfielder Ryan Malloy claimed player of the week and Holy Cross freshman outfielder Ben Malgeri earned rookie of the week honors.
 
Song continued his dominance on the mound picking up a win in 6.0 innings of three-hit, shutout baseball while striking out 14 against academy rival Air Force. The senior right-hander earns his sixth career Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and 11th weekly honor while climbing within seven strikeouts of 300 for his career.
 
Malloy earned his first career player of the week after batting.500 (7-for-14) with one home run, four RBIs and five runs to help the Mountain Hawks take two of three games from Mount Saint Mary’s.
 
Malgeri went 6-for-9 at the plate during the Crusaders’ series against UAB. The freshman outfielder doubled twice, stole two bases and scored a pair of runs.
 
Navy senior catcher/first baseman Christian Hodge, Lehigh junior right-handed pitcher Jason Reynolds and Lafayette sophomore left-handed pitcher JP Woodward were selected as weekly honorable mentions.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Malloy, Lehigh, Sr., OF, Holland, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep
*Malloy batted .500 (7-for-14) with one home run, four RBIs and five runs scored to help the Mountain Hawks take two of three games from Mount Saint Mary’s.
*The senior outfielder slugged .786 and reached base at a .500 clip for the weekend while posting multi-hit performances in each of Lehigh’s three games.
*Malloy went 3-for-5 with one double, one RBI and two runs scored on Sunday after going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Noah Song, Navy, Sr., RHP, Claremont, Calif./Claremont
*Song pitched 6.0 innings of three-hit, shutout ball while striking out 14, two shy of his career high, to earn a victory against Air Force.
*The senior right-hander's first 10 recorded outs were strikeouts. He is now seven away from reaching 300 career strikeouts.
*Song has not allowed a run in 11.2 innings this season, while striking out 26 batters for a strikeouts per nine-inning mark of 20.06.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Ben Malgeri, Holy Cross, Fr., OF, Stratham, N.H./Exeter
*Malgeri batted .667 (6-for-9) while slugging .889 and reaching base at a .667 during the Crusaders’ three-game series against UAB.
*The freshman right fielder scored twice and drove in one run on a sacrifice fly in the first game of the series against the Blazers.
*Malgeri doubled twice and stole two bases while batting leadoff, cleanup and fifth in the lineup during the series.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Christian Hodge, Navy, Sr., C/1B, Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow
*Hodge batted a team-best .462 (6-for-13) in Navy’s three-game series against Air Force while scoring two runs.
*The senior started twice at catcher and once at first base, recording 31 putouts and two assists from the behind the plate.
 
Jason Reynolds, Lehigh, Jr., RHP, Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek
*Reynolds earned a victory against Mount St. Mary’s by allowing three runs, none earned, on three hits over 7.0 innings. The junior right-hander struck out nine and walked two.
*His 7.0 innings was the longest start by a Mountain Hawk pitcher this season.  
 
JP Woodward, Lafayette, So., LHP, Baltimore, Md./Boys Latin
*Woodward made a quality start against James Madison, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits over 6.0 innings. The sophomore southpaw struck out seven and walked three against the Dukes.
*He retired the last eight batters he faced against JMU.
