Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (4.16.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Army West Point, Lehigh and Navy each captured one of the three Patriot League Baseball Weekly Awards when the League office announced honors on Tuesday.
 
Navy senior right-handed pitcher Noah Song picked up his fourth Patriot League Pitcher of the Week of the campaign and eighth of his career to tie Army West Point’s Nick Hill (2004-07) for the most career pitcher of the week honors. Song earned his sixth win of the season, against Lehigh, by tossing 6.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out 11.  
 
Army West Point senior shortstop Trey Martin claimed his first Patriot League Player of the Week honor of the season by batting .500 (8-for-16) with five runs and eight RBIs to help Army West Point go 4-1 last week, including taking two of three games from Lafayette.
 
Lehigh freshman left-handed pitcher Luke Rettig was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the first time after earning a victory over Navy on Sunday. Rettig allowed two runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings while striking out five and walking one in his first collegiate win.
 
Holy Cross sophomore RHP Liam Dvorak and junior shortstop Chris Rinaldi, Lafayette senior infielder Spencer Rouse, Lehigh junior RHP Levi Stoudt and Navy junior shortstop Michael Coritz were selected as weekly honorable mentions.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL UPCOMING GAMES (How to Watch)
Navy hosts Georgetown at 6 p.m. on Tuesday on the Patriot League Network (PLN), before League play resumes with three games on Wednesday. Army West Point hosts Holy Cross at 3 p.m. with Bucknell welcoming Navy and Lafayette hosting Lehigh, both starting at 3:30 p.m. This weekend Lehigh takes on Bucknell, Lafayette travels to Holy Cross, and Navy hosts Army West Point. PATRIOT LEAGUE STUDENT-ATHLETES AMONG NCAA DI LEADERS
*Navy senior RHP Noah Song leads NCAA DI in strikeouts (110), strikeouts per nine innings (16.78), is second in complete games (4) and is among the nation’s leaders in ERA (25th, 1.53).
*Song is third in NCAA DI with seven wins while Army West Point senior LHP Tyler Giovinco is 20th with six.
*Lehigh senior outfielder Ryan Malloy is 56th in the nation with a .646 slugging percentage.
*Army West Point sophomore 1B Anthony Giachin is 30th in NCAA DI with 14 doubles this season.
*Navy senior catcher Christian Hodge is 30th in the nation with 10 home runs and 33rd with 41 RBIs.
*Army West Point junior outfielder Jacob Hurtubise is 10th in the nation averaging 0.81 stolen bases per game and 37th with 1.19 runs per game and 38th with a .494 on-base percentage.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Trey Martin, Army West Point, Sr., SS, Corbin, Ky./South Laurel
*Martin batted .500 (8-for-16) with five runs and eight RBIs to help Army West Point go 4-1 last week, including taking two of three games from Lafayette.
*The senior infielder hit two home runs and drove in six runs to help sweep a doubleheader from Manhattan.
*He went 5-for-11 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a three-game series with the Leopards.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Noah Song, Navy, Sr., RHP, Claremont, Calif./Claremont
*Song tossed 6.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out 11 and walking four to earn his sixth win of the season, defeating Lehigh.
*The senior right-hander won his sixth straight start and became the first pitcher in NCAA DI to eclipse 100 strikeouts this season.
*Song is holding opponents to a .170 batting average and a 1.53 ERA this season.  
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Luke Rettig, Lehigh, Fr., LHP, Oxford, Pa./Oxford
*Rettig allowed two runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings while striking out five and walking one to earn a victory over Navy on Sunday.
*The freshman southpaw held Navy’s right-handed hitters to a .111 batting average (2-for-18) while retiring the leadoff hitter in six of seven innings.
*The victory over Navy was Rettig’s first collegiate win.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Spencer Rouse, Lafayette, Sr., IF, Pasadena, Calif./Loyola
*Rouse batted .500 (7-for-14) while slugging 1.000 and reaching on-base at a .533 clip for Lafayette in four games last week. The senior infielder hit two home runs, drove in three runs and scored four.
 
Chris Rinaldi, Holy Cross, Jr., SS, Westfield, N.J./Westfield
*Rinaldi batted .429 (6-for-14) while slugging .714 and reaching base at a .600 clip to help Holy Cross go 4-0 last week, including a three-game sweep over Bucknell. He scored three runs, drove in six and walked five times.
 
Michael Coritz, Navy, Jr., IF, Clifton, Va./Paul VI Catholic
*Coritz batted .444 (8-for-18) with three runs scored and three RBIs to help Navy go 3-1 last week, including taking two of three from Lehigh. He went 6-for-14 in the three-game series with Mountain Hawks, recording two multi-hit games.
 
Liam Dvorak, Holy Cross, So., RHP, Bayport, N.Y./Chaminade
*Dvorak pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six and walking three against Bucknell. He held the Bison to a .182 batting average.
 
Levi Stoudt, Lehigh, Jr., RHP, Pennsburg, Pa./Perkiomen School
*Stoudt scattered six hits and did not allow a run over 7.0 innings while striking out eight batters and walking none, but did not earn a decision in the Mountain Hawks’ 3-0 loss to Navy.
