Patriot League Announces Baseball Players of the Week (4.2.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy captured two of the three Patriot League Baseball Weekly Awards after going 4-0 last week and Holy Cross claimed one honor when the League office announced honors on Tuesday.
 
Navy senior catcher/first baseman Christian Hodge was named Patriot League Player of the Week for the second time this season after batting .500 (9-for-18) with five home runs, 16 RBIs and seven runs scored during Navy’s 4-0 week that included a three-game sweep over Lafayette. Mids’ freshman outfielder Joe Simourian batted .615 (8-for-13) with seven runs scored, two RBIs, one home run and one double to pick up his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Holy Cross senior RHP Declan Cronin earned his first Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honor this season after tossing 7.0 inning complete game to earn a victory over Lehigh. Cronin allowed one unearned run on three hits and struck out nine.
 
Army West Point senior centerfielder Jacob Hurtubise, Lehigh senior catcher Jeff Shanfeldt, and junior RHP Levi Stoudt and Navy senior RHP Noah Song were selected as weekly honorable mentions.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL UPCOMING GAMES (How to Watch)
The six Patriot League baseball teams will combine to play eight games on Tuesday and Wednesday, before a full slate of League games this weekend. Lafayette hosts Bucknell, Army West Point welcomes Lehigh and Navy matches up with Holy Cross. Each series includes three games with a doubleheader on Saturday. PATRIOT LEAGUE STUDENT-ATHLETES AMONG NCAA DI LEADERS
*Navy senior RHP Noah Song leads NCAA DI in strikeouts (90), strikeouts per nine innings (17.36) and is among the nation’s leaders in ERA (47th, 1.54).
*Song and Army West Point senior LHP Tyler Giovinco are tied for 17th in the nation with five wins apiece.
*Navy freshman first baseman Zach Stevens (22nd, .415) is among the nation’s leaders in batting average and 11th with a .536 on-base percentage.
*Lehigh senior outfielder Ryan Malloy is 38th in the nation with a .688 slugging percentage.
*Navy senior catcher Christian Hodge is 55th in NCAA DI with 1.17 RBIs per game.
*Army West Point junior outfielder Jacob Hurtubise is 11th in the nation averaging 0.78 stolen bases per game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Christian Hodge, Navy, Sr., C/1B, Winder, Ga./Winder-Barrow
*Hodge batted .500 (9-for-18) with five home runs, 16 RBIs and seven runs scored during Navy’s 4-0 week that included a three-game sweep over Lafayette.
*He slugged 1.389 and reached base at a .591 clip while recording multi-hit and multi-RBI games in each of the Mids’ four games last week.
 *Hodge hit two home runs in each game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Lafayette to drive in nine runs on the day.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Declan Cronin, Holy Cross, Sr., RHP, Montclair, N.J./Regis
*Cronin pitched 7.0 complete innings to earn a victory over Lehigh, allowing one unearned run on three hits.
*The right-hander struck out nine batters and walked none to face just 24 Mountain Hawks in 7.0 innings.
*Cronin held Lehigh to a team .125 batting average to earn his second win of the season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Joe Simourian, Navy, Fr., OF, Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy
*Simourian batted .615 (8-for-13) with seven runs scored, two RBIs, one home runs and one double to help Navy to a 4-0 week.
*The freshman outfielder slugged .923 and reached base at a .706 clip for a Navy offense that scored 57 runs last week.
*Simourian posted two three-hit games, both against Lafayette, while scoring seven runs and driving in two runs with a homer during the series with the Leopards.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Jacob Hurtubise, Army West Point, Sr., CF, Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville
*Hurtubise batted .400 (6-for-15) with seven runs, two RBIs and four stolen bases for the Black Knights. He also walked four times and had an .800 on-base percentage during the week.  
 
Jeff Shanfeldt, Lehigh, Sr., C, Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley
*Shanfeldt hit .421 (8-for-19) while hitting two home runs and driving in nine for Lehigh. He slugged .947, with four doubles.
 
Levi Stoudt, Lehigh, Jr., RHP, Pennsburg, Pa./Perkiomen School
*Stoudt earned his third win of the season, pitching 7.0 innings while scattering seven hits and allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.  
 
Noah Song, Navy, Sr., RHP, Claremont, Calif./Claremont
*Song tossed a 7.0-inning complete game, scattering six hits and allowing one run while striking out 12 and walking three. He’s now tied for the Patriot League lead with five wins.
