Patriot League Men's and Women's Golfer of the Week (4.3.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore Chris Tanabe and Navy sophomore Christine McDonnell were selected as the Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week, respectively when the League office announced honors on Wednesday.
 
Tanabe claimed his first Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week honor of the season by winning the individual medal at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational hosted by Lafayette at the Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa. The Sewickley, Pa. native shot a 3-under par 141 in the 36-hole tournament.
 
McDonnell tied for 16th-place with an 11-over par 227 (76-73-78) at the Harvard Invitational at the Orange County National Golf Center in Winter Garden, Fla. She captured her second Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week this spring and currently holds the best career scoring average in Navy women’s golf program history (76.1).
 
Colgate junior Ryan Skae, Lafayette freshman Ryan Tall and Boston University freshman Hanako Kawasaki received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfer of the Week are selected by the League office, based on nominations from each programs’ sports information directors. 
 
Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week
Chris Tanabe, Bucknell, So., Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley
*Tanabe was the individual medalist at the 36-hole Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational with a 3-under par 141 (69-72).
*He recorded a birdie and an eagle on the 14th and 15th holes in the second round to claim the first win by a Bison since fall 2012.
*Tanabe placed first in a field of 116 competitors that included Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. His finish helped the Bison place third out of 20 teams.
 
Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week
Christine McDonnell, Navy, So., Suwanee, Ga./Lambert
*McDonnell tied for 16th-place out of 48 competitors at the 54-hole Harvard Invitational with an 11-over par 227 (76-73-78).
*She stood among inside the top-10 after the first day by shooting 5-over par 149 through 36 holes.
*McDonnell leads the Midshipmen this season with a scoring average of 75.4, while currently holding the best career scoring average in program history at 76.1.

*Skae tied for sixth out of 120 competitors at the 36-hole Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational by shooting an even-par 144 (70-74).

*Tall tied for sixth out of 120 competitors at the 36-hole Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational by shooting an even-par 144 (73-71). 

Hanako Kawasaki, Boston University, Fr., Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam/British International School
*Kawasaki tied for 57th at the 54-hole Bryan National Collegiate with a 13-over par 229 (75-78-76) at Bryan Park Champions Course in Browns Summit, N.C.
