Patriot League Announces Football Players of the Week (9.16.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lafayette freshman quarterback Keegan Shoemaker racked up 545 yards of total offense against Sacred Heart to claim Patriot League Football Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week when the League office announced accolades on Monday.
 
Shoemaker claimed his second rookie of the week honor and his first offensive player honor after passing for 411 yards and rushing for 134 yards in a loss to the Pioneers.
 
Fordham sophomore linebacker Ryan Greenhagen claimed his first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor. Rams’ junior placekicker/punter Andrew Mevis received his first Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week award this season and fifth of his career.  
 
Bucknell fifth-year punter Alex Pechin, Colgate sophomore defensive back Collin Heard, Fordham junior running back Zach Davis and Georgetown sophomore wide receiver Joshua Tomas were selected as honorable mentions for their week three performance.
 
The Patriot League football players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Keegan Shoemaker, Lafayette, Fr., QB, Prosper, Texas/Prosper
*Shoemaker totaled a school-record 545 yards of total offense against Sacred Heart while accounting for four touchdowns.  
*He completed 24-of-35 passes for 411 yards and touchdown passes of 33 and 11 yards in his second career start for the Leopards.
*Shoemaker also rushed for 134 yards on 23 attempts, including touchdown runs of five and seven yards.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Greenhagen, Fordham, So., LB, Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII
*Greenhagen led the Fordham defense with 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles in the Rams’ 29-14 victory over Bryant.
*The sophomore linebacker had 1.0 tackle for loss as part of a defensive effort that limited the Bulldogs to 238 total yards.
*The Fordham defense forced Bryant to punt five times and turn the ball over on downs once in the second half.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andrew Mevis, Fordham, Jr., P/K, Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community
*Mevis accounted for 11 of Fordham’s points in the team’s 29-14 victory over Bryant on Saturday.
*The junior placekicker connected on field goals of 30, 27 and 42 yards and also made both of his extra-point attempts.  
*He also punted five times with a long of 50 while placing three inside the Bryant 20-yard line.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Zach Davis, Fordham, Jr., RB, Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan
*Davis rushed for 140 yards on 20 carries and had a fourth-quarter touchdown to help seal the Rams’ 29-14 victory over Bryant.  
 
Joshua Tomas, Georgetown, So., WR, University Park, Ill./Crete-Monee
*Tomas accounted for 173 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the Hoyas’ 69-0 win over Catholic. He had a 40-yard touchdown reception and a 66-yard punt return for a score.  
 
Collin Heard, Colgate, So., DB, West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield
* Heard led Colgate with 10 tackles, a half-sack and recorded his first career interception in a loss at William & Mary.
 
Alex Pechin, Bucknell, 5th, P, Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville
*Pechin averaged 51.0 yards per punt on six attempts against No. 23/24 Villanova. He placed five of his six punts inside the Wildcats’ 20-yard line, and 4-of-6 punts were for 50 yards or more.
