Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (9.23.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland garnered three weekly Patriot League Men’s Soccer weekly awards while Lafayette and Navy received one weekly honor apiece when the League office announced results on Monday.
 
Loyola Maryland senior forward Brian Saramago received the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, teammate junior Justin Ingram earned midfielder of the week honors and junior Chase Vosvick tabbed goalkeeper of the week for the second-straight week. Navy sophomore Tyler Collins was named defensive player of the week while Lafayette midfielder Yiannis Panayides rounded out the awards as rookie of the week.
 
Lehigh freshman midfielder Natan Rosen and sophomore midfielder Michael Tahiru, Loyola Maryland senior defender Davey Mason, and Navy junior goalkeeper Ian Bramblett, senior midfielder Diego Manrique and junior forward Nicko West all were placed on the honorable mention list.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brian Saramago, Loyola Maryland, Sr., F, New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park
* Saramago netted his third collegiate hat trick on Saturday, scoring the final three goals in Loyola's 4-0 home victory over Army West Point in the Patriot League opener.
* The senior gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead just 8:35 into the contest on his first goal of 2019 with his second and third goals happening 1:12 apart in the second half in the 80th and 81st minutes.
* Saramago is now tied for 17th in program history with 29 career goals at Loyola.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Justin Ingram, Loyola Maryland, Jr., M, Indianapolis, Ind./Pike
* Ingram factored on two of Loyola's four goals in Saturday's 4-0 home win over Army West Point with a goal and an assist.
* The junior scored the game-winner on a penalty kick 7:10 into the first half, followed by an assist on the last of Saramago's three goals in the 81st minute.
* Ingram has tallied points in back-to-back games after adding in assist in last week's 2-0 win over 2018 Ivy League champions Princeton.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Collins, Navy, So., D, Crofton, Md./Mount St. Joseph
* At center back, Collins anchored the backline that only allowed 17 shots over two matches with just five shots on goal over two Navy wins.
* Last week, he helped Navy record a 2-1 victory over Longwood on the road and aided the Midshipmen in its fifth shutout of the season in a 4-0 win against Holy Cross on Saturday to start the League season.
* Navy has allowed just two goals all season along with just 16 shots on goal over seven matches.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, Jr., GK, Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy
* Vosvick recorded his second-straight clean sheet, making a season-high five saves in Loyola's 4-0 win over Army West Point this past Saturday.
* The junior improved to 14-3-1 with a 0.77 goals-against average and a .803 save percentage in 18 regular season starts against Patriot League opponents.
* Vosvick has also held opponents to one goal or fewer in 17 of 18 career starts at home.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Yiannis Panayides, Lafayette, Fr., M, Larnaca Cyprus/American Academy
* Panayides scored his first goal of the season on Saturday in Lafayette's League opener against Boston University.
* His goal came in the 86th minute to give the Leopards the 2-1 victory, beating the Terriers for the first time since 2013 and helping lead the Leopards to their best record since 2005.
 
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Natan Rosen, Lehigh, Fr., M/F, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman
* Rosen tallied his first career goal in the 50th minute to give the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 advantage over American in the Patriot League opener.

Michael Tahiru, Lehigh, So., M, Accra, Ghana/Hebron Academy
* Tahiru scored his first career goal in the 16th minute as the Mountain Hawks defeated American, 2-1, in the Patriot League opener on Saturday.

Davey Mason, Loyola Maryland, Sr., D, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman
* Mason picked up his fourth point in the past three games in the team’s 4-0 victory versus Army West Point, assisting on the second of Saramago's three goals in the 80th minute.

Ian Bramblett, Navy, Jr., GK, Easley, S.C./Easley
* Bramblett made another four saves this week and posted his fifth shutout of the season. In the 2-1 win over Longwood, he made four saves. In the win against Holy Cross he helped Navy tally their fifth clean sheet of the year.  

Diego Manrique, Navy, Sr., M, Buford, Ga./Mill Creek
* Manrique finished the week with two assists in Navy's 2-1 victory at Longwood. On the year, the senior leads Navy with four assists, which is a career-best.

Nicko West, Navy, Jr., F, Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield
* West paced the Navy offense with three goals over two matches this past week, with one goal against Longwood and two tallies versus Holy Cross.
