CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Bucknell junior Chris Tanabe and Navy junior Christine McDonnell were selected as the Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week, respectively when the League office announced weekly honors on Wednesday. .
Tanabe captured his second career Patriot League Men’s Golfer of the Week honor by earning his second collegiate individual medal by winning the Dartmouth Invitational. The junior shot a Bucknell-program record 9-under par 113 (68-65) at the par-71 Hanover Golf Club.
McDonnell received her third career Patriot League Women’s Golfer of the Week award after tying for 11th place at the Nittany Lion Invitational. She shot a 4-over par 220 (76-71-73) at the par-72 Penn State Blue Course.
Bucknell junior Casey Morrow and Loyola Maryland junior Evan Brown received an honorable mention for their performances.
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S GOLFERS OF THE WEEK
Chris Tanabe, Bucknell, Jr., Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley
*Tanabe claimed the individual medal out of 75 competitors at the Dartmouth Invitational by firing a second-round 6-under par 65 to finish at 9-under par 113 for 36 holes.
*The Sewickley, Pa. native won his second collegiate tournament by breaking a Bucknell program record for the lowest 18- and 36-hole scores with his scores 65 and 113, respectively.
*Tanabe helped the Bison finish second out of the 12-team field at the par-71 Hanover Golf Club in Hanover, N.H. with a final round of 279, the third-best mark in school history.
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
Christine McDonnell, Navy, Jr, Suwanee, Ga./Lambert
*McDonnell tied for 11th of 72 competitors by shooting a 4-over par 220 (76-71-73) at the Nittany Lion Invitational on the par-72 Penn State Blue Course.
*Her 54-hole score of 220 is tied for the fourth-lowest in Navy program history. Her nine birdies throughout the tournament ranked sixth among the field.
*McDonnell led the Mids to 6th-place finish among the 12-team field. Her 1-under par 71 in the second round contributed to her team’s 297, the fifth-best round in program history.
HONORABLE MENTION
Casey Morrow, Bucknell, Jr., Mars, Pa./Shady Side Academy
*Morrow finished 22nd among the 72-competitor field at the Nittany Lion Invitational by shooting a 10-over par 226 (74-78-74).
Evan Brown, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett
*Brown tied for ninth-place among a competitive 75-player field by shooting a 5-under par 205 (68-69-68) at the Old Town Club Collegiate at the par-70 Old Town Club in Winston, Salem, N.C.
*Brown led the Greyhounds to an 11th-place finish in a field that included five teams in GolfWeek.com’s top-20, including No. 1 Wake Forest.
