No. 1 Colgate and No. 6 Lafayette Advance to Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game (3.5.23)

Top-seeded Raiders defeat No. 4 Army West Point; No. 6 Leopards outlast No. 7 American in double-OT thriller

EASTON, Pa. – No. 1 Colgate advanced to the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game for the sixth-consecutive season after defeating No. 4 Army West Point and will host No. 6 Lafayette, who outlasted No. 7 American in a double-overtime thriller during Sunday’s semifinal round.
 
The Raiders downed the Black Knights, as senior guard Oliver Lynch-Daniels and senior forwards Ryan Moffatt and Keegan Records combined for 61 points in the 91-74 victory. The Leopards held on for an 84-76 double-overtime victory over the Eagles, as senior forward Leo O’Boyle led five Lafayette players in double-figures with 23 points.
 
Live coverage of the 2023 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, on CBS Sports Network. Jason Knapp will handle play-by-play duties, Mo Cassara will provide analysis and Jamie Erdahl will report from the sideline. HAMILTON, N.Y. – Top-seeded Colgate advanced to the PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game for the sixth-consecutive season with a 91-74 victory over No. 4 Army West Point at Cotterell Court.
*Raiders’ senior guard Oliver Lynch-Daniels finished with 21 points, while senior forwards Ryan Moffatt and Keegan Records added 200 points apiece in the victory. Moffatt also grabbed a team-high nine boards.
*Patriot League Player and Defensive Player of the Year Tucker Richardson finished with 11 points, 12 assists, six rebounds and two steals for the Raiders.
*Colgate shot 53 percent from the floor, recording 27 assists on 33 made field goals. Freshman guard Braeden Smith also dished out five assists in addition to scoring nine points.
*Army West Point junior guard Jalen Rucker scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting to go with seven assists.
*Freshman guard Coleton Benson scored 24 points, connecting on 6-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

EASTON, Pa. – Senior forward Leo O’Boyle sent the game to a second overtime with a corner 3-pointer with four seconds remaining, then scored six points in the extra frame to lead No. 6 Lafayette to an 84-76 double-overtime victory over No. 7 American.
*O’Boyle scored a team-high 23 points, one shy of his career high, on an afternoon where he eclipsed 1,000 career points.
*Lafayette had three players record double-doubles, with sophomore center Justin Vander Baan finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds, junior forward Kyle Jenkins with 11 points and 10 boards and sophomore guard TJ Berger adding 14 points and 10 assists.
*Junior forward Matt Rogers posted his fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Rogers gave the Eagles a brief lead at the end of regulation and scored the Eagles’ first five points in the first overtime.
*Sophomore guard Elijah Stephens scored all 15 of his points after halftime and recorded a game-high six steals. Senior guard Jaxon Knotek and junior forward Johnny O’Neil added 16 and 14 points, respectively.
*The Eagles overcame a 21-point deficit with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation as Stephens and Knotek combined for 24 points in the second half to help send the game to overtime.
*American built a five-point lead in the first overtime, but a pair of free throws from freshman forward Josh Rivera and a 3-pointer from O’Boyle extended the game.
*Lafayette scored the first eight points of the second overtime to take control and held on for an 84-76 victory to advance to the Patriot League Championship Game for the first time since 2015.
