The Holy Cross football team fell to 4-6, 3-4 in the Patriot League, as the Crusaders fell to Fordham, 24-21. HC tried to overcome a 24-7 third quarter deficit but fell to the Rams by a field goal.
Fordham took the opening kickoff and drove 61 yards to open the game and take a 7-0 lead. The Rams continued to put the pressure on as they scored on a four yard run to post a 14-0 advantage. HC answered back as junior quarterback Brian Hall (Dallas, TX) scored on a five yard run capping a 68 yard drive. Hall's TD scamper came after a 4th and 1 conversion for the Crusaders.
After another Fordham field goal, Holy Cross thought that they had another TD in the second quarter but senior wide receiver David Thompson (Tarrytown, NY) was ruled out of bounds. The Crusaders then missed a 24 yard field goal and headed into the halftime break down, 17-7.
Fordham scored again in the third quarter to take a 24-7 lead but HC fought back. Thompson made an acrobatic catch on a 32 yard pass to cut the deficit to 24-14. The Crusaders added another touchdown with 11:34 left in the fourth quarter as Hall connected on a six-yard score with senior Steve Green (Plainsboro, NJ) to cut the deficit to just three points, 24-21. Unfortunately for HC, that was as close as they could get and they fell to Rams.
Holy Cross ends the 2001 season with a record of 4-6, 3-4 in Patriot League play.
