Holy Cross Defeats Georgetown, 33-7

Holy Cross scored three second quarter touchdowns and defeated Georgetown, 33-7. The loss dropped the Hoyas to 0-2 overall and in Patriot League play. It was the season-opener for Holy Cross.

GU and Holy Cross were scoreless until the Crusaders' Calvin Souder scored on a two-yard run at the 12:20 of the second quarter. It was the first of two touchdown runs for Souder on the day. Holy Cross quartrback Brian Hall threw for a score and ran for another in the quarter to give Holy Cross a 20-0 lead.

The Hoyas got on the board with 4:55 to play in the third quarter. Sophomore Dawon Dicks (Bridgeport, Conn./Notre Dame) capped an 11-play, 65-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run around the left end. However, Holy Cross answered just 2:30 later as Hall hit Steve Green with a 33-yard scoring strike. It was Green's second touchdown of the day.

Holy Cross put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, converting on a six-yard drive after a GU turnover deep in Hoya territory.

GU quarterback Sean Peterson (Gaithersburg. Md./Watkins Mill) was 17 for 31 and threw for 159 yards, but was intercepted twice. Sophomore Luke McArdle (Boxford, Mass./Phillips Academy) had four receptions for 85 yards and also had a 30-yard punt return. Senior Scott Pogorelec (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) had his first career interception in the first half for GU.

Georgetown will host Wagner in a non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. The Hoyas return to Patriot League action on Sept. 29, when they play at Fordham.
