Lehigh jumped three spots in The Sports Network I-AA football poll, landing at number three overall. The ranking in the poll, released Monday, is the highest a Mountain Hawk team has ever been ranked by The Sports Network.
The rise comes on the heels of Lehigh's win over I-A opponent Buffalo, 37-26, on Thursday. The Mountain Hawks compiled 508 yards of total offense, while holding the Bulls to just 265. Running back Jermaine Pugh rushed for a career high 112 yards on 23 carries. It was Lehigh's first victory against a Division I-A opponent since beating Navy 24-9 in 1987.
Montana held onto the top spot in this week's poll, receiving 85 first place votes of a possible 89. Previous to being ranked third this week, no Mountain Hawk team had ever risen higher than fifth in the Sports Network Poll. There was no ESPN/USA Today poll released this week, so the Brown & White do not move from their position at number seven.
Lehigh buckles the chinstrap again on Saturday, September 7, when it hosts Patriot League foe Georgetown at Goodman Stadium. The game will be both the home opener and Patriot League opener for the Brown & White. Kickoff for the game, also Fleet Bank Youth Day, is set for 1:00. The action can be heard live on WKAP 1470 AM, and the game will be broadcast on both Service Electric Cable TV and Fox Sports Pittsburgh. Tickets for the game can be purchased by calling (610) 7LU-GAME.
