WASHINGTON (AP) - Matt Romeo rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown and Devon
Telp had two fourth-quarter interception returns for scores as Towson beat
Georgetown 27-6 Saturday afternoon.
Anthony Melzi threw a touchdown pass to Jason Galloway for the Tigers (5-5,
3-3 Patriot League), who won for the first time in six road games. Towson
improved to 3-1 lifetime against the Hoyas.
Matt Fronczke scored on an interception return for Georgetown (3-7, 1-5
Patriot League), which has dropped three straight.
Towson's defense recorded five sacks, three interceptions, blocked a field goal and recovered two fumbles. Telp became the first player in 18-year history of the Patriot League to return two interceptions for TDs in the same game.
Romeo, who averaged 36.8 yards a game through the Tigers' first nine
contests, replaced tailback Mikal Lundy as the centerpiece of Towson's ground
attack with 40 rushes. Romeo has 490 yards and four touchdowns in three career
games against Georgetown.
Fronczke stepped in front of Galloway along the Towson sideline and returned
an interception 52 yards for a 6-0 Georgetown lead with 8:32 left in the first
quarter.
Melzi put the Tigers ahead for good 1:34 before halftime as Romeo capped off
a 14-play, 55-yard drive by barreling up the middle for a 4-yard score.
