Former Lehigh QB Phil Stambaugh Signs With Philadelphia Eagles

May 26, 2004

Although football season traditionally gets underway in the fall, one former Lehigh star is making headlines in late May. Former Lehigh standout Phil Stambaugh has been inked to a deal with the Phialdelphia Eagles. The Eagles open rookie camp today.

Stambaugh, a 1999 Lehigh graduate, spent much of last season as a member of the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe, impressing several scouts. In August, he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers before being released later that month.

While at Lehigh, Stambaugh set a number of passing records. He holds school records for most career touchdowns (78), completions (818), yards (9,669), and completion percentage (63.71%).

As a junior, Stambaugh was the Patriot League's Player of the Year.

The Eagles open their annual training camp on Lehigh's Goodman Campus with a team meeting beginning on Friday, July 30.
