Senior linebacker Jared Nepa (Carbondale, PA) and junior quarterback Mike Saraceno (Sunrise, FL) have been named co-captains of the 2005 Colgate University football team.
The announcement was made by head coach Dick Biddle on the final day of fall camp. The Raiders will open their season on Saturday, Sept. 3 at home against Central Connecticut State University.
Nepa, a second team all-Patriot League selection last season, was Colgate's leading tackler during the 2004 season. He was the winner of Colgate's Hal W. Lahar Trophy, awarded annually to the most valuable defensive player.
Nepa made 87 tackles including 10 tackles for losses, three quarterback sacks, three interceptions, four pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and one fumble forced.
Saraceno comes into the 2005 season as the Raiders' starting quarterback replacing two-year starter Chris Brown. Saraceno was the backup to Brown during Colgate's 2003 run to the NCAA Division I-AA title game, and then last season he left the squad to be with his mother, who was fighting cancer.
He saw action in four games during the 2003 season completing three-of-five passes for 35 yards.
