Georgetown football head coach Bob Benson announced today that senior center Robert LaHayne (Glenelg, MD) was named the team's fourth captain for the 2005 season. LaHayne joins fellow seniors Maurice Banks (Clinton, MD), Michael Ononibaku (Amherst, MA) and Kim Sarin (Roseville, MN) as the Hoya leaders.
LaHayne begins his second season on the offensive side of the ball, having played his first two seasons on the Hilltop on defense. As a junior, he started the final three games of the year at center along with appearing in five games. During his starts, the Hoyas rushed for total of 603 yards (201 yards per game). As a defender, he appeared in 20 straight games spanning over his sophomore and freshman seasons, making 24 tackles, mostly in short line situations.
The Hoyas open up the 2005 season on Saturday, September 3, when they travel to Lewisburg, PA to take on Patriot League rival Bucknell. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be heard live through the Bucknell athletics web site, www.bucknellbison.com.
