Izevbigie Wins Two Events at Lafayette-Rider Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Junior thrower Osasumwen Izevbigie (Springdale, Md./Charles Herbert Flowers) captured first place in the weight throw and shot put events at the Lafayette-Rider Invitational at The Armory in New York City today. Her throw of 56' 6½" was nine inches farther than the second-place finisher and qualified her ECACs. Izevbigie also won the shot put with a distance of 45' 2¼", hitting the ECAC mark for the fourth time this season.

Senior Pamela Glennon (Holland, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) placed fifth in the shot put (49' 9¼") and junior Vicky Melroy (Newton, N.J./Kittatinny Regional) finished 10th (38' 8¾"). Melroy also competed in the weight throw where she came in seventh with a distance of 46' 3¼".

In the high jump, senior Kristen Kalinowski took second with a 5'5" jump. Her sister, Leigh Kalinowski turned in a 14th place finish (5'1") and freshman Nina Horowitz placed 21st.

The Leopards performed well in the 4x400 relays, with the women's team (Asia Hollis, Allison Hawkey, Meaghan Darling, Janica Austin) running turning in a time of 3:58.03 for fourth place. Ever Ruiz, Adam Ballester, Sean Casey, and Bradley Williams represented Lafayette on the men's side, finishing fifth with a time of 3:21.08.

Junior Jessica Buzzell (Milton, N.H./Spaulding) ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.16, good enough for ninth place. Freshman Kerriann Borke (Clay, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) came in 17th with a personal-best 9.44 seconds. In the 400-meter dash, Austin narrowly missed qualifying for ECACs with a personal-best 57.72 for sixth place. Hollis also reached a personal best in the event, finishing ninth in 58.22 seconds. On the men's side, sophomore Will Braswell (Newark, N.J./Episcopal Academy (Va.)) placed 12th in the 60-meter dash in 7.07 seconds.

Rookie Margaret Bruno-Metzger (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan) beat her personal-best in the mile by eight seconds (5.03.98) for an eighth-place finish. Senior Brittany Waldron (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and sophomore Christine Wittich (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) took sixth and seventh place with times of 3:02.90 and 3:05.93, respectively.

For the men, senior Brian Vail ran the 500-meters in 1:05.51 to place sixth. Seven Leopards competed in the 800-meters with four top-20 finishers, including senior Pete Reynolds who hit the IC4A qualifying mark (1:53.26) to come in eighth place. Casey came in 11th (1:54.73) and senior Aaron Buchman and Blum took 13th and 14th respectively.

Lafayette will close it's indoor season next weekend at the Patriot League Championships, hosted by Bucknell.
