Though serving as a charter member, Davidson did not begin play in the Patriot League until 1987. The Wildcats' tenure lasted just two seasons, and ended without any All-Patriot League selections. Davidson went just 1-20 overall and 0-7 in the Patriot League in its two seasons.

Davidson departed the Patriot League after the 1988 season, and now plays in the Pioneer Football League. Georgetown is the only Patriot League team to face the Wildcats since that point, and holds a 5-1 lead in the series against Davidson entering the 2011 season.
