WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army track and field will travel to the largest and oldest track festival in the United States this week, as over 30 Black Knights are slated to compete at the 118th running of the Penn Relays. With more than 22,000 entries and a three-day attendance likely to exceed 110,000, Army will be on center stage at Philadelphia’s Franklin Field, Thursday through Saturday.
Army is coming off a successful weekend at the Princeton-hosted Larry Ellis Invitational. The Black Knights collected seven marks that rank among the top-10 all-time at the Academy, including a pair in the women’s 800-meter run. The highest-ranked finish came by two-time Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week, Jessica Waggoner. Waggoner recorded the third-best discus throw in Army history at 47.90 meters.
Field events kick off Army’s stay at the Penn Relays, as junior McKenzie Majchrzak is slated for the women’s Eastern Division high jump on Thursday at 10 a.m. Majchrzak has a history of success at the Penn Relays, having recorded her career-best leap at the 2010 competition which ranks third all-time (1.73m).
Senior Barrett LeHardy is the lone entrant for the men on Thursday, as LeHardy is entered in the Olympic Development Division’s 3,000-meter steeplechase slated for 7:50 p.m. For Army’s full list of entrants, see below.
Over the course of the busy three-day event, Army will look to add to its growing list of IC4A and ECAC Championship qualifiers. Through last weekend’s meet, the Black Knights boast six ECAC and 10 IC4A qualifiers, not including two additional men’s relay units.
The Penn Relays mark the final event of the regular season for Army as the Patriot League Outdoor Championships are scheduled for May 4-5 at Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
