CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Fordham's rapid ascent continued on Monday as the Rams came in at No. 8 in both the FCS Coaches Poll and The Sports Network top 25 to earn the highest ranking in school history.
The Rams are one of only five remaining undefeated teams, and one of two to boast a 7-0 record. Fordham's 7-0 start is its first since 1930 after a 34-12 win at Georgetown on Saturday. Fordham entered the polls only four weeks ago, and has gained ground every week in both rankings.
Lehigh fell slightly in each of the rankings, coming in at No. 16 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 18 in The Sports Network top 25. The Mountain Hawks are ranked for the 39th consecutive week dating back to 2010.
Both teams also debuted in the first ECAC Lambert Meadowlands FCS Poll of the season on Monday, with Fordham taking the top spot overall. The Mountain Hawks tied for fifth place with James Madison.
Lehigh also had an indivdual honor from The Sports Network on Monday as senior punter Tim Divers was named the FCS Special Teams Player of the Week. Divers won the same honor from the Patriot League for posting a 45.8 average on four punts, placing two inside the 20, in Lehigh's 24-10 win at Columbia on Saturday.
Both Fordham and Lehigh are in action on Saturday, with the No. 8 Rams visiting Yale at Noon and the No. 16/18 Mountain Hawks hosting Georgetown in a League contest shown on Service Electric 2 Sports and Patriot League Network at 12:30 p.m.
