Chase Edmonds' record-breaking day highlights Saturday in the Patriot League

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Fordham junior running back Chase Edmonds broke the Patriot League career points record, surpassing former Colgate star Jordan Scott in the first half against Lafayette. Edmonds went on to break his own single-game rushing record with 359 yards, while posting his third-straight four touchdown game in a 58-34 win over the Leopards.
 
In a meeting between League powers, Lehigh and Colgate, two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Nick Shafnisky returned to the Mountain Hawk lineup to tie a career-high five touchdown passes to go along with 394 passing yards. Lehigh junior wide receiver Gatlin Casey tied a 2016 single-game high with four touchdowns on three scoring receptions and a 94-yard kickoff return. Casey and junior wide receiver Troy Pelletier both topped the 100-yard receiving mark for the third-consecutive game. Colgate’s senior quarterback Jake Melville tossed for 160 yards and a touchdown and added a game-high 151 rushing yards with another touchdown, but the Raiders fell to the Mountain Hawks, 45-31.
 
Bucknell came back from a 17-point first half deficit to defeat Holy Cross 21-20 in Worcester, Mass., while Georgetown fell to Princeton, 31-17 at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior quarterback Nick Shafnisky returned to the lineup and tied a career-high five touchdown passes, while completing 27-of-40 pass attempts for 394 yards in the Mountain Hawks’ 45-31 win over Colgate at Goodman Stadium.
*Lehigh junior wide receiver Gatlin Casey had 196 receiving yards on 11 catches, with three touchdown receptions and a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. His four touchdowns is tied for the most in a single-game this season in the Patriot League.
*Casey and junior wide receiver Troy Pelletier (6 catches, 102 yards, 1 touchdown) both eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark for the third straight game.
*A Lehigh quarterback has passed for over 300 yards in each of the last four games.
*Freshman defensive back Riley O’Neil made his first career interception in the first quarter. Senior linebacker Colton Caslow led the Mountain Hawks with nine tackles.
*Senior quarterback Jake Melville scored on a 75-yard touchdown run on Colgate’s first play from scrimmage. It was Colgate’s longest run from scrimmage since Jimmy DeCicco scored on a 77-yard run in 2013.
*Melville finished with 151 rushing yards on 18 carries, while completing 9-of-23 pass attempts for 248 yards and a touchdown.
*Junior running back Keyon Washington rushed for 101 yards on 25 carries and a 14-yard touchdown run.
*Junior wide receiver John Maddaluna III had three catches for 88 yards, while sophomore wide receiver Thomas Ives had two catches for 72 yards, including a 59-yard touchdown.
*Colgate led 17-7 early in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 17-14 lead. Lehigh scored three consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter.
*Raiders’ senior defensive back Chris Morgan finished with nine tackles, while junior defensive lineman Pat Afriyie blocked a field goal.
*Sophomore defensive back Tyler Castillo made his second interception of the season.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman running back Chad Freshnock ran for a pair of second half touchdowns to help Bucknell comeback from a 17-point first half deficit to defeat Holy Cross, 21-20, in its first Patriot League game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Fitton Field.
*Junior running back Joey DeFloria carried the ball 28 times for 149 yards. It was his third 100-yard game of the season.
*Junior quarterback Matt Muh went 18-for-25 for 202 passing yards in his third career start.
*Senior safety Bret Berg led the Bison with 10 tackles, while junior linebacker Ben Richard had two sacks for a defense that held Holy Cross scoreless in the second half. The Bison trailed 20-7 at halftime.
 
*Holy Cross jumped out to a 17-0 behind a pair of touchdown catches for senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek. He finished with 61 yards on three catches, while adding 116 yards on six punt returns and 68 yards on four kickoff returns.
*Wieczorek’s first touchdown came on a 24-yard pass from senior wide receiver Brendan Flaherty. He also caught a pass from junior quarterback Blaise Bell, who connected on 11-of-23 pass attempts for 81 yards.
*Senior linebacker Kyle Young had a game-high 13 tackles for Holy Cross. Junior linebacker Nick McBeath made eight tackles and forced a fumble.
*Holy Cross could not connect on a 42-yard field goal with 3:38 remaining in the game, sealing the win for Bucknell.

BRONX, N.Y. – Junior running back Chase Edmonds became the all-time leading scorer in the Patriot League, while breaking his own single-game rushing record with 359 yards in a 58-34 victory over Lafayette on Saturday at Jack Coffey Stadium.
*Edmonds also set an NCAA FCS record for most yards gained per rush (21.1) – a record set by VMI’s Gene Brown in 1988 – while scoring four touchdowns for the third consecutive game. He had touchdown runs of 29, 19, 74 and 67 yards.
*Senior quarterback Kevin Anderson rushed for 108 yards on 10 attempts, while completing 12-of-18 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns.
*Fordham set the program’s single-game record for 516 rushing yards, previously set this season against Elizabeth City State (383 yards).
*Sophomore wide receiver Corey Caddle had four catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns.
*Lafayette scored first on junior defensive back Phillip Parham’s 35-yard interception return for a touchdown.
*Senior quarterback Blake Searfoss completed 25-for-41 pass attempts for 325 yards and a touchdown. The score was a 65-yard completion to sophomore wide receiver Joey Chenoweth to bring the Leopards within three, 20-17, in the first quarter.
*Junior wide receiver Matt Mrazek had nine catches for 88 yards.
*Sophomore placekicker Jacob Bissell went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, connecting from 35 and 32 yards.
*Sophomore defensive back Jerry Powe and junior linebacker Rob Hinchen led the Leopards with seven tackles apiece.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Junior defensive back Jelani Williamson returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown and intercepted a Princeton pass in the end zone, but Georgetown could not keep pace with the Tigers in a 31-17 loss at Cooper Field.
*Senior defensive end Hunter Kiselick blocked his third kick of the season in the first quarter – tying for the FCS lead – and Williamson returned it 49 yards for a touchdown to give GU an early 7-0 lead.
*Sophomore quarterback Clay Norris made his first career start, going 13-for-26 for 106 yards.
*Junior running back Alex Valles rushed for 87 yards on 13 carries with a 13-yard touchdown run.
*The Hoyas had four players with double-digit tackles, including senior linebacker Leo Loughrey (13), junior linebacker Matthew Apuzzi (12), junior safety David Akere (12) and sophomore linebacker J’V’on Butler (11).
*After GU took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Princeton scored 21 consecutive points, including two from Hoya turnovers, to take a 21-7 lead. Valles cut the deficit to seven before the half with a rushing touchdown.
*Senior punter Harry McCollum averaged 43.2 yards per punt, including two inside the 20-yard line, on eight attempts.
