Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (10.15.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Colgate Raiders highlighted the week by picking up a pair of weekly awards when the League office announced award winners on Monday. American, Boston University and Navy each claimed one award.
 
Junior forward Mara Cosentino was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for scoring three goals over the course of two wins for the Raiders. Her teammate, junior goalkeeper Kelly Chiavaro was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for leading the Raider defense to a shutout victory over Bucknell.
 
American senior midfielder Audrey Denkler was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Week for scoring two goals and one assist in the Eagles’ first League win of the season. American defeated Holy Cross 4-1.
 
Boston University freshman forward Lauren Adelman nabbed Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after she scored the game-winning goal in overtime versus Harvard. The Terriers defeated the Crimson 2-1 in their first overtime victory of the season.
 
Navy junior defender Baseley McClaskey took home her fifth Patriot League Defender of the Week title this season for helping the Mids outscore Army West Point, 2-1. McClaskey assisted on both goals for Navy and paced the defense that allowed only one shot during the entire second half.
 
Honorable mentions were given to American senior forward Yari Bradfield, Lehigh senior midfielder Sabrina Mertz, Boston University senior defender Olivia Closson and Colgate freshman forward Adrienne Vaughn.

Patriot League Tournament Update
Colgate, Boston University and Navy have each clinched a spot in the six-team Patriot League Tournament. All three schools could finish as the top seed and host the semifinal and championship round. The quarterfinal round will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 30, while the semifinal and championship contests are slated for Friday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, November 4.
 
Patriot League Leaders
American’s Yari Bradford leads the League in scoring with nine goals and 19 points. Erynn Johns of Army West Point and Audrey Denkler of American both have a League-best five assists. Navy’s Baseley McClaskey has registered a League-high three game-winning goals, while Kelly Chiavaro of Colgate owns the best goals-against average in the Patriot League (0.54/game).
 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mara Cosentino, Colgate, Junior, Forward, Glastonbury, Conn. /Glastonbury HS
*Cosentino scored three goals last week to lead the Raiders to two victories.
*She was Colgate’s lone scorer in a 2-0 win over Cornell.
*The junior recorded one goal in a 2-0 victory over Bucknell.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Audrey Denkler, American, Senior, Midfielder, Arlington, Va. /Yorktown HS
*Denkler netted two goals and had one assist in a 4-1 win over Holy Cross.
*The senior is now tied for the League leader in assists with six.
*She helped American record their first Patriot League win of the season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Baseley McClaskey, Navy, Junior, Defender, Grand Junction, Colo. /Fruita Monument HS
*McClaskey helped Navy come back from behind to defeat Army West Point 2-1.
*The junior registered both assists for the Mids.
*She paced the defense that limited Army to just six shots for the game.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Kelly Chiavaro, Colgate, Junior, Goalkeeper, Blainville, Quebec/John Rennie HS
*Chiavaro recorded three saves in a 2-0 victory over Bucknell.
*The goalie posted her seventh clean sheet of the season.
*She is currently tied for first in the League in shutouts with seven.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Lauren Adelman, Boston University, Freshman, Forward, West Linn, Ore. /West Linn HS
*Adelman scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Harvard for a 2-1 victory.
*Her goal was scored in the 96th minute.
*Adelman helped the Terriers record their first overtime win of the season.

*Closson helped Boston U. earn a pair of wins by limiting Harvard to 10 shots and Loyola Maryland to just four shots.

*Vaughn recorded two assists to help the Raiders claim two victories for the week.
