Patriot League Announces Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (9.17.18)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Army West Point won a pair of weekly awards when the Patriot League office announced award winners on Monday. The Black Knights took home their first League win of the season in a 1-0 victory over Lehigh. Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Cassalia and senior midfielder Sydney Witham won Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and Midfielder of the Week, respectively. Colgate, Lafayette and Navy were also victorious in the first week of League play.
 
Colgate senior midfielder Martina Loncar was named Patriot League Offensive player of the Week after scoring a pair of goals for the Raiders in a 3-0 victory over Loyola Maryland.
 
Lafayette freshman forward Katie Butler was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for tallying one goal and one assist in the Leopards’ 2-0 victory over the two-time defending Patriot League Champions Bucknell Bison. The goal was the first of Butler’s career.
 
Navy junior defender Baseley McClaskey won her fourth-consecutive Patriot League Defender of the Week honor after scoring the game-winning goal against Holy Cross. McClaskey leads the Midshipmen with five goals this season, three occurring in the last two games.
 
Honorable mentions went out to American sophomore goalkeeper Ryleigh Brown who had 15 saves in a 1-1 tie with Boston University. Sunday’s tie concluded the first week of Patriot League play.

*Scored the game-winning goal in 1-0 victory over Lehigh.
*Snapped a 485:58 scoreless drought by the Black Knights.
*First career goal.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Baseley McClaskey, Navy, Junior, Defender, Grand Junction, Colo. /Fruita Monument HS
*Scored the game-winning goal in 1-0 victory over Holy Cross.
*Aided defense in posting a shutout.
*Has netted a team-high five goals for Navy in the 2018 season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

*Posted seven saves to earn her 4th consecutive shutout.
*Sixth shutout of the season and 12th clean sheet of her career.
*Has a 447:37 scoreless streak.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Katie Butler, Lafayette, Freshman, Forward, Westfield, N.J. /Westfield HS
*Had a hand in both goals in the Leopards’ 2-0 win over Bucknell.
*Tallied one goal and one assist.
*First career goal.
