Patriot League Announces Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (11.25.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Holy Cross sophomore guard Avery LaBarbera averaged 22 points and eight rebounds in a 2-0 week to earn Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Army West Point forward Kamryn Hall was selected as the rookie of the week after recording two double-digit scoring games this past week, when the League office announced results on Monday.

Boston University’s Sydney Johnson, Colgate’s Alexa Brodie, Lafayette’s Reilly Campbell and Natalie Kucowski, Lehigh’s Camryn Buhr, and Loyola Maryland’s Stephanie Karcz all earned honorable mention recognition.

The Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Player of the Week
Avery LaBarbera, Holy Cross, So., G, Harrison, N.Y./Harrison
* LaBarbera led the Crusaders in a 2-0 week, averaging 22 points and eight rebounds per game while also totaling 11 assists and seven steals. She went 7-for-12 (.583) from 3-point range and shot .552 from the field.
* In the team's 87-75 win vs. Bryant on Wednesday, she had 25 points – the second-highest total of her career -- on 9-for-12 shooting with five assists, and three steals.
* In a 68-42 victory over Merrimack on Saturday, LaBarbera captured her second career double-double with a 19-point and 10-rebound showing, along with six assists and four steals.
* LaBarbera currently ranks seventh in the nation with a 6.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Kamryn Hall, Army West Point, Fr., F, Sacramento, Calif./CC McClatchy
* Hall registered two double-digit scoring games this week, with 13 points against St. Francis Brooklyn and 11 versus Columbia.
* In the Columbia matchup, she also pulled down 12 rebounds to record her first career double-double.
* Additionally against Columbia, Hall surpassed her season total of 3-pointers made connecting on each of her three shots from beyond-the-arc.
 
Honorable Mentions
Sydney Johnson, Boston University, Fr., G, Powder Springs, Ga./The Lovett School
* Johnson added nine points, four steals, four rebounds and three steals in a 60-58 comeback win at Albany.
* Johnson, who has been the leading freshman scorer for the Terriers in all four games, helped BU to its first 3-1 start since the 2007-08 season.

Alexa Brodie, Colgate, Fr., G, Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks School
* Brodie scored back-to-back double figures in scoring against Canisius and Saint Louis this past week with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Reilly Campbell, Lafayette, Fr., F, Wallingford, Conn./Loomis Chafee School
* In the team’s 65-60 win over LIU, she recorded a career-high 18 minutes, while posting three field goals six rebounds, seven points and three steals in her second collegiate game.

Natalie Kucowski, Lafayette, Jr., F, Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy
* In Wednesday's 65-60 win over LIU, Kucowski recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds to mark her fourth double-double of the season and the 19th of her career.
* She recorded a career-high seven blocks in the win, bringing her career total to 128 blocks and moves into fourth all-time on the Lafayette career blocks list.

Camryn Buhr, Lehigh, Sr., G, Mishawaka, Ind./Penn
* Buhr scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds and two steals, along with connecting her four free throws in the 70-51 win over CCSU on Monday.
* Then, she scored 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added 11 boards for her second double-double of the year in a 75-68 victory versus Seton Hall on Friday.

Stephanie Karcz, Loyola Maryland, Sr., G, Middletown, N.J./Middletown South
* Karcz averaged 18.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 6.0 steals and 4.5 assists in her two games last week.  Against Howard and St. Francis Brooklyn, she notched back-to-back double-doubles to increase her career total to 21.
* The senior leads Division I in steals per game (5.0) after recording six in each of the Greyhounds’ last three contests.
