Patriot League Men's Basketball Players of the Week Announced (12.2.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Colgate junior guard Jordan Burns was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week and Loyola Maryland freshman guard Cam Spencer claimed rookie of the week honors when the League office announced weekly accolades on Monday.
 
Burns received Patriot League Player of the Week recognition for the second time during his career after earning Legends Classic Tournament MVP honors by scoring a career-high and tournament record 40 points in a 99-81 win over Green Bay.
 
Spencer picked up his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award by averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in Loyola Maryland’s 2-1 week. He scored a career-high 16 points to go along with five assists against Omaha to join Golden Dike as the second Greyhound to earn rookie of the week honors this season.
 
Army West Point senior center Matt Wilson, Loyola Maryland senior guard Andrew Kostecka and Navy sophomore guard John Carter Jr. each received an honorable mention for their performances last week.
 
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jordan Burns, Colgate, Jr., G, San Antonio, Texas/John Marshall
*Burns averaged 32.5 points in two games in addition to earning Legends Classic Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after scoring a tournament-record 40 points in a 99-81 victory over Green Bay. He shot 54.5 percent (24-of-44) from the floor and 40.9 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-22) in two games.
*The junior guard connected on 14-of-23 field goal attempts, including 8-of-14, during his career-high 40-point performance to go along with four rebounds and three assists against the Phoenix.
*Burns scored 25 points and had three steals in the Raiders’ 72-62 win against Siena.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Cam Spencer, Loyola Maryland, Fr., G, Davidsonville, Md./Boys Latin
*Spencer averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in Loyola Maryland’s 2-1 week, helping the team to wins against IUPUI (81-77) and Binghamton (77-65).
*The freshman guard scored a career-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists against Omaha on Monday.
*He had 13 points and five assists against IUPUI and 11 points and five assists against Binghamton while shooting .577 (15-of-26) from the field and .467 (7-for-15) from beyond the arc.

Matt Wilson, Army West Point, Sr., C, Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County
*Wilson recorded a double-double with a team-highs 16 points and 11 rebounds in Army West Point’s 66-64 victory over Marist on Saturday. He connected on 6-of-9 of his attempts from the field and recorded his third double-double of the season.
 
Andrew Kostecka, Loyola Maryland, Sr., G, Germantown, Md./Clarksburg
*Kostecka averaged 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.67 steals per game during the Greyhounds' 1-1 week which included a 77-65 win over Binghamton on Sunday. He scored a team-high 25 points against Omaha.
 
John Carter Jr., Navy, So., G, Spring Hill, Tenn./Summit
*Carter Jr. averaged 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals to lead Navy to a 2-0 week with wins against Cornell (72-61) and Brown (76-56). He shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from 3-point range.
