Patriot League Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week Announced (3.18.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy captured three of the five Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse weekly awards and Boston University claimed the remaining two when the League office announced the honors on Monday.
 
Navy junior attacker Kelly Larkin was selected the Patriot League Attacker of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time during her career after tallying nine points on three goals and six assists in the Mids’ 18-6 win over Colgate in the League opener. Senior defender Marie Valenti picked up her second defensive player of the week this season and third of her career with a six-ground ball, four-caused turnover performance against the Raiders. Freshman midfielder Reagan Roelofs earned her third rookie of the week award with a hat trick and team-high seven draw controls in the victory against Colgate.
 
Boston University sophomore midfielder Emily Vervlied totaled five goals, one assist, four draw controls, four ground balls and five caused turnovers during Boston University’s 2-0 week to claim her first Patriot League Midfielder of the Week. She caused five turnovers in addition to scoring two goals and winning four draw controls in Saturday’s 16-8 win over Lehigh. Freshman goalkeeper Kennady Smith earned her first goalkeeper of the week honor after posting a .585 save percentage and 8.50 goals against average during the Terriers 2-0 week.
 
Lehigh junior midfielder Sondra Dickey, Loyola Maryland senior midfielder Taylor VanThof and sophomore attacker Livy Rosenzweig and Navy sophomore midfielder Annalise Heyward all received weekly honorable mentions.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAY CONTINUES SATURDAY
All 10 Patriot League women’s lacrosse programs play on Saturday, with each of the five games streamed live on the Patriot League Network (PLN). Lehigh travels to Loyola Maryland and Army West Point heads to American for a pair of 1 p.m. opening draws on the PLN. Navy hosts Bucknell at 2 p.m. Holy Cross welcomes Colgate (Noon), and Boston University hosts Lafayette (4 p.m.) with both games being televised regionally on NESN Plus.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE IN THE POLLS
Loyola Maryland slipped to No. 16 after a loss to then No. 5 Virginia and a victory over Army West Point. Navy moved up one spot to No. 14, after defeating Colgate in its League opener, in the Inside Lacrosse DI Women’s Top 20 Poll. Army West Point is receiving votes in the IL Women’s poll after beginning the season 7-2. The Greyhounds are 11th in the IWLCA Poll with the Mids coming in at No. 14.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUERS AMONG NCAA LEADERS
*Boston University junior attacker Kailey Conry is second in NCAA DI averaging 4.0 assists per game and seventh with 5.67 points per game.
*Loyola Maryland sophomore attacker Livy Rosenzweig is 18th in assists (2.2) and ninth in points (5.4), while Navy junior attacker Kelly Larkin is 11th averaging 5.29 points per game.
*Two League players are among the NCAA DI top-10 in caused turnovers with Bucknell senior defender Callie DeWitt (2.83 ctpg) ranking fifth and Loyola Maryland senior defender Lindsey Ehrhardt (2.60 ctpg) placing ninth.
*Army West Point sophomore attacker Jackie Brattan is 22nd in NCAA DI with 5.86 draw controls per game while American senior midfielder Leah Brennan is 32nd with 5.33 draw controls per game.
*Lafayette senior attacker Jane Kirby leads the nation with 2.80 free position goals per game and is 13th in goals per game (3.60).
*Lafayette sophomore goalkeeper Quinn Lacy is third in the nation with a .573 save percentage and 13th in goals-against average (8.70).
*Bucknell senior defender Callie DeWitt is 10th in NCAA DI with 3.83 ground balls per game while senior goalkeeper Jamisen DeWitt is 16th with 3.67 ground balls per game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
Kelly Larkin, Navy, Jr., Attack, Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton
*Larkin finished with a team-high nine points with three goals and six assists in Navy’s 18-6 victory over Colgate.
*Her nine points was one shy of a career-high in addition to her two ground balls and one caused turnover against the Raiders.
*Scored two of her three goals in the first half and dished out five of her six assists in the second half.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Emily Vervlied, Boston University, So., Midfielder, Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Wissahickon
*Vervlied registered five goals, one assist, four draw controls, four ground balls and five caused turnovers during Boston University’s 2-0 week.
*She posted a career-high with four points while recording her first collegiate hat trick in a 12-9 win against Temple. Her goal with 4:32 remaining proved to be the game winner. 
*Vervlied caused a game-high five turnovers in addition to scoring two goals and winning four draw controls in a 16-8 victory over Lehigh.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marie Valenti, Navy, Sr., Defender, Bechtelsville, Pa./Boyertown Area
*Valenti recorded six ground balls and four caused turnovers to help a Navy defensive unit that held Colgate to six goals.
*Her six ground balls is a season high and tied a career best.
*She is one caused turnover shy of becoming the sixth player in Patriot League history to accumulate 100 or more career caused turnovers.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Kennady Smith, Boston University, Fr., Goalkeeper, Pompano Beach, Fla./Pine Crest
*Smith led Boston University to wins against Temple (12-9) and Lehigh (16-8) posting a .585 save percentage and 8.50 goals against average in two games.
*She made a career-high 17 saves in the Terriers victory against Temple.
*Smith stopped seven shots in the Terriers win over Lehigh. 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Reagan Roelofs, Navy, Fr., Midfielder, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley
*Roelofs scored three goals on five shots while winning seven draw controls, picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers in Navy’s 18-6 win over Colgate.
*She tied her career best with three goals and recorded new personal bests with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
*Roelofs won seven of the Mids’ 11 draw controls. 
 
HONORABLE MENTION
Livy Rosenzweig, Loyola Maryland, So., Attack, Katonah, N.Y./Somers
*Rosenzweig combined for three goals, six assists, nine draw controls and three ground balls during a 1-1 week for Loyola Maryland. The sophomore attacker had two goals and two assists against No. 5 Virginia and one goal and four assists in a win over Army West Point.

*In two games, VanThof tallied six goals, one assist, eight draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. She had four goals and five draw controls in the Greyhounds League opening win over Army West Point.
 
Annalise Heyward, Navy, So., Midfielder, Charlotte, N.C./Ardrey Kell
*Heyward finished with five points on two goals and three assists while picking up three ground balls and causing two turnovers in an 18-6 victory over Colgate.

*Dickey combined for seven goals on 11 shots, six draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers during Lehigh’s 1-1 week.
