Patriot League Announces Men’s Soccer Players of the Week (9.16.19)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland earned three weekly Patriot League Men’s Soccer weekly awards while Colgate and Lehigh received one weekly honor apiece, when the League office announced results on Monday.
 
Lehigh sophomore Josh Luchini received the Patriot League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for back-to-back weeks, while Loyola Maryland senior Barry Sharifi earned midfielder of the week honors. Greyhounds’ senior defender Davey Mason captured defensive player of the week accolades and teammate junior Chase Vosvick tabbed goalkeeper of the week. For the second week in a row, Colgate freshman forward Drew Fischer rounded out the awards as rookie of the week.
 
Army West Point seniors Keenan O’Shea (forward) and Justin Stoll (goalkeeper), Lafayette sophomore midfielder Sebastian Varela, Loyola Maryland senior forward Nico Brown and Navy sophomore defender Matt Nocita all were placed on the honorable mention list.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Josh Luchini, Lehigh, So., F, Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny
* Luchini scored the game-winner in the 50th minute on Saturday night as the Mountain Hawks defeated Seton Hall, 1-0.
* The sophomore’s goal was his third of the season as he has scored in three-straight games.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Barry Sharifi, Loyola Maryland, Sr., M, Jericho, N.Y./Jericho
* Sharifi provided the game-winning goal in Loyola's 2-0 victory over defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Saturday, as he scored the go-ahead strike in the 63rd minute.
* The senior’s goal was his 15th career collegiate goal.
* The two-time defending Patriot League Midfield of the Year now has captured eight League weekly awards.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Davey Mason, Loyola Maryland, Sr., D, Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman
* Mason assisted on the game-winner in Loyola's 2-0 victory over defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Saturday.
* The senior now has points in back-to-back games after scoring a late equalizer against 2018 NCAA Quarterfinalist James Madison last Sunday. 
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Chase Vosvick, Loyola Maryland, Jr., GK, Phoenix, Md./Montverde Academy
* Vosvick made three saves in Loyola's 2-0 victory over defending Ivy League champion Princeton on Saturday night.
* The clean sheet was his first this season and the 15th overall in his collegiate career, as he has held opponents to one goal or fewer in 16 of his 17 career starts at Ridley Athletic Complex.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Drew Fischer, Colgate, Fr., F, New Albany, Ohio/New Albany
* Fischer led the Raiders to a 1-0 victory over Monmouth with his second goal of the season as he broke the scoreless draw late in the second half.
* The goal proved to be the first game-winning goal of his career, to go along with four shots on goal.
* The freshman paces the Raiders on the season with two goals and six points.

* O’Shea scored the Black Knights’ lone goal in the 1-1 draw against Columbia on Friday to give him the 50th point of his career.

* Stoll posted a season-high seven saves in the 1-1 tie at Columbia.
 
Sebastian Varela, Lafayette, So., M, Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo
* Varela scored a pair of goals in the team’s 5-2 comeback win over Monmouth on Tuesday last week.
 
Nico Brown, Loyola Maryland, Sr., F, Elkridge, Md./McDonogh
* Brown scored his first goal of the season in the second half of the Greyhounds’ 2-0 win over Princeton on Saturday.
 
Matt Nocita, Navy, So., D, Porter Ranch, Calif./Oaks Christian
* Nocita tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory at Mount St. Mary’s, while helping the Mids record their fourth-straight shutout.
