Patriot League Announces Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (1.13.20)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Colgate senior guard Rachel Thompson was named the Patriot League Women's Basketball Player of the Week and Loyola Maryland freshman forward Emily McAteer received rookie of the week honors when the League office announced the results on Monday.
 
Army West Point freshman forward Kamryn Hall, Boston University freshman guard Maggie Pina, Bucknell senior forward Ellie Mack, Lafayette junior guard Drew Freeland, and Lehigh sophomore guard Megan Walker all earned honorable mention recognition.
 
The Patriot League Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school's sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

Patriot League Player of the Week
Rachel Thompson, Colgate, Sr., G, St. Louis, MO./Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School
* Thompson helped the Raiders to a 2-0 week and its best start in the Patriot League (3-1) since 1991, as she averaged 22.5 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, and shot 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the floor.
* In the 76-74 victory against Loyola, she eclipsed 1,000-career point mark with 25 points to become the 15th member of Colgate's 1,000-point list. The senior scored 10 of her game- and season-high 25 points in the fourth quarter to help Raiders rally for the win.
* In Saturday's 80-55 win versus Navy, Thompson earned the first triple-double in program history with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She was 8-of-11 from the floor against Navy for the second-best shooting game of season.
 
Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Emily McAteer, Loyola Maryland, Fr., F, Thorton, Pa./Garnet Valley
* McAteer added 14 points and seven boards in a two-point defeat to Colgate on Wednesday.
* McAteer then recorded her first collegiate double-double at Lafayette on Saturday, with 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds in a 55-52 overtime defeat.
* The freshman has now scored 10 or more points in all four Patriot League games this season, averaging a team-high 14.0 points per game while shooting 44.4% percent (8-18) from 3-point range during that stretch.

* Hall registered a career-high 16 points against Boston U. on Sunday to mark the sixth time she's reached double-digit scoring this season.
 
Maggie Pina, Boston University, Fr., G, West Chester, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame De Namur
* Pina scored 18 points in the Terriers' 72-66 victory at Army on Sunday, to lead Boston to its fourth straight win at West Point.
 
Ellie Mack, Bucknell, Sr., F, Paoli, Pa./Conestoga
* Mack collected her fourth career double-double in Saturday's 51-40 win over Holy Cross, as she led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting and sank three from beyond the arc.
* Mack also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds and recorded a career-high three blocks, to guide Bucknell to its fourth straight victory.
 
Drew Freeland, Lafayette, Jr., G, Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley
* In the Leopards' 55-52 overtime win against Loyola, Freeland had a team- and season-high 17 points in a season-high 39 minutes played.
 
Megan Walker, Lehigh, So., G, Rogers, Minn./Minnetonka
* Walker helped the Mountain Hawks finish the week 2-0 with wins over Boston University (51-34) and American (64-63), as she averaged 12.5 points per game, shooting 52.9 percent (9-for-17) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from the 3-point line between the two matchups.
