CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — American sophomore guard Jade Edwards was named the Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the first time this season, and Boston University freshman guard Maggie Pina earned rookie of the week for the fifth time this year when the League office announced the results on Monday.
Bucknell senior forward Ellie Mack, Holy Cross sophomore guard Avery LaBarbera, Lafayette junior forward Natalie Kucowski, and Lehigh sophomore guard Megan Walker all earned honorable mention recognition.
The Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Patriot League Player of the Week
Jade Edwards, American, So., G, Chicago, Ill./The Latin School of Chicago
* Edwards earned her second double-double of the season and fourth of her career during the 67-62 overtime win at Army (67-62).
* The sophomore led the team with 23 points – just one point shy of her career-high – and 11 rebounds.
* Edwards scored seven key points in the final 2:30 of regulation to keep the Eagles within striking distance, then grabbed the key defensive rebound that led to Indeya Sanders’ fast break to send the game into overtime.
Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Maggie Pina, Boston University, Fr., G, West Chester, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame De Namur
* Pina recorded a game-high 19 points in the Terriers’ 62-51 victory at Holy Cross on Saturday.
*Fifteen of her 19 points came on three-point baskets, as she connected on five on eight attempts from beyond the arc.
*The freshman also posted four rebounds and two assists to help Boston University complete the season sweep over the Crusaders.
Honorable Mentions
Ellie Mack, Bucknell, Sr., F, Paoli, Pa./Conestoga
* Mack led the Bison in scoring for a fourth-straight game with 18 points on 8-of-13 (61.5%) shooting in the 66-42 win over Loyola Maryland on Saturday.
* She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and dished out four assists.
Avery LaBarbera, Holy Cross, So., G, Harrison, N.Y./Harrison
* LaBarbera led the Crusaders with a team-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals versus Boston University on Saturday.
* She has now recorded double-figure points in each of the Crusaders’ last seven games.
Natalie Kucowski, Lafayette, Jr., F, Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy
* Kucowski scored a team-high 22 points and 19 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season on Saturday against Lehigh.
* She has now moved into 12th on Lafayette’s all-time scoring list with 1,079 career points, while her 19 rebounds gives her 936 career rebounds.
Megan Walker, Lehigh, So., G, Rogers, Minn./Minnetonka
* Walker had a career performance for the Mountain Hawks in a 73-66 victory over Lafayette on Saturday with 23 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers.
