Patriot League Announces M-F Athletic Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week (2.4.20)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Navy claimed three of the six M-F Athletic Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards, including two by freshman Charlene Morke when the League office announced honors on Tuesday. Boston University picked up two and Army West Point received one weekly accolade.
 
Morke matched her season-best mark of 4.00 meters in the pole vault to capture the M-F Athletic Women’s Field Athlete and Women’s Rookie of the Week. Her ECAC-qualifying mark is the best in the Patriot League this season and 50th in NCAA DI.
 
Navy freshman Jack Haller was named the M-F Athletic Men’s Rookie of the Week for his ECAC-qualifying height of 4.95 meters in the pole vault at the Navy Invitational II. 
 
The Terriers captured both M-F Track Athlete of the Week awards. Senior Paul Luevano picked up his first award of the season with an IC4A-qualifying time (1:51.6) in the 800 meters at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite. Freshman Joceline Wind posted the best time in the Patriot League this season (2:47.40) in the 1,000 meters to take home the second weekly honor of her career.
 
Army West Point junior Geoff Kirk earned his second M-F Athletic Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the shot put at the Penn State National meet. Kirk has the four best distances in the Patriot League this season in the shot put.
 
Army West Point sophomore Emily Mikoud, Bucknell senior Stefone Moore-Green, Holy Cross senior Jenna Gasparrini, Lehigh senior Brooke Schaeffer, Loyola Maryland junior Senna Ohlsson and Navy senior Tommy Reeder and junior Clayton Thompson all received honorable mentions for their performances last week.
 
M-F Athletic Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Paul Luevano, Boston University, Sr., Los Angeles, Calif./Venice
*Luevano posted an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.69 in the 800 meters at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite in Boston, Mass.
*The senior recorded the second-best time in the Patriot League this season while placing ninth among 35 competitors and fourth among all collegiate competitors.
*Luevano’s 800-meter time of 1:51.69 ranks 70th in NCAA DI this season.
 
M-F Athletic Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Joceline Wind, Boston University, Fr., Sonceboz-Sombeval, Switzerland/Gymnase Francais de Bienne
*Wind recorded an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:47.40 to finish sixth in the 1,000 meters at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite.
*She placed second among all collegiate competitors and has the best 1,000-meter time in the Patriot League this season by more than three seconds.
*Wind was selected as the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Jan. 28.
 
M-F Athletic Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Geoff Kirk, Army West Point, Jr., Avon, Conn./Avon (USMAPS)
*Kirk finished fourth with an ECAC-qualifying throw in the shot put of 17.59 meters at the Penn State National.
*The junior has the four top throws in the Patriot League this season while his throw at Penn State National would place him 64th in NCAA DI.
*Kirk finished fourth at the Penn State National and second among all collegiate competitors.
 
M-F Athletic Women’s Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week
Charlene Morke, Navy, Fr., Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti
*Morke matched her career-best mark by clearing 4.00 meters in the pole vault to capture first place at the Navy Invitational II.
*The freshman is the second student-athlete in program history to reach 4.00 meters in the pole vault and the first to accomplish the feat more than once.
*The four-time rookie of the week ranks 50th in NCAA DI this season in the pole vault.
 
M-F Athletic Men’s Rookie Athlete of the Week
Jack Haller, Navy, Fr., Cumming, Ga./West Forsyth
*Haller posted an IC4A-qualifying mark in the pole vault by clearing 4.95 meters to win the competition at the Navy Invitational II.
*The Cumming, Ga. native improved his personal best by 0.09m and topped the Mids’ best performance of the year by 0.07m.
*Haller’s 4.95-meter vault is the second-best mark in the Patriot League this season.
 
Honorable Mention
Emily Mikoud, Army West Point, So., Plymouth, Mass./Foxcroft Academy
*Mikoud recorded ECAC-qualifying marks in the weight throw (18.52m) and shot put (14.57m) at the Penn State National. Her distance in the weight throw is the best in the Patriot League this season.
 
Stefone Moore-Green, Bucknell, Sr., Sicklerville, N.J./Paul VI
*Moore-Green took first place in the 400 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 49.22 at the Bison Open. He has the third-best time in the League this season.
 
Jenna Gasparrini, Holy Cross, Sr., Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate
*Gasparrini ran an ECAC-qualifying time of 17:16.84 – the second-fastest time in the Patriot League this season – to place third in the 5,000 meters at the New England Championship on Friday.  
 
Brooke Schaeffer, Lehigh, Sr., Westfield, N.J./Westfield
*Schaeffer recorded an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:11.30 in the 800 meters with a 10th-place finish at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invite. She has the second-best time in the Patriot League this season.
 
Senna Ohlsson, Loyola Maryland, Jr., Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley
*Ohlsson set a Loyola Maryland program record by finishing the 1,000 meters in 2:50.72. The ECAC-qualifying mark is also second in the Patriot League this season. She has program records in the 500, 600 and 1,000 meters.
 
Tommy Reeder, Navy, Sr., Kiln, Miss./Saint Stanislaus
*Reeder won the weight throw competition at the Navy Invitational II with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 18.80 meters. His throw was a personal record and the best mark in the Patriot League this season.
 
Clayton Thompson, Navy, Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff ISD
*Thompson recorded a pair of IC4A-qualifying marks, finishing first in the 60-meter hurdles in 7.96 and third in the long jump with a distance of 7.17 meters.
