Patriot League Announces Women’s Lacrosse Players of the Week (3.2.20)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola Maryland claimed two of the five Patriot League women’s lacrosse weekly awards when honors were announced by the League office on Monday. American, Lafayette and Lehigh each claimed one weekly accolade.
 
Loyola Maryland sophomore defender Katie Detwiler claimed her third-straight Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and sophomore midfielder Jillian Wilson collected her first Patriot League Midfielder of the Week for their performances in the Greyhounds’ 22-12 win vs. No. 19 Penn State.
 
American junior attacker Emma Vinall was named Patriot League Attacker of the Week for the second week in a row after posting a League-best 12 points and 16 draw controls last week to help the Eagles improve to a program-best 5-0 start.  
 
Lafayette junior goalkeeper Quinn Lacy was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week by recording a .632 save percentage with 24 saves during a 1-1 week for the Leopards.
 
Lehigh freshman attacker Gabby Schneider collected her second Patriot League Rookie of the Week this season by posting career-highs in goals (4) and points (9) while tying her career-high with five assists to help Lehigh defeat Monmouth, 17-13.
 
American junior midfielder Kendall Goldblum, Army West Point senior defender Taylor Korpela and senior midfielder Samantha Stewart, Lehigh junior midfielder Hannah Cermack and Loyola Maryland junior attacker Livy Rosenzweig all received weekly honorable mentions.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE IN THE POLLS
Defending Patriot League champion Loyola Maryland climbed to No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and No. 3 in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll after defeating previously undefeated Penn State (22-12) to help them improve to 4-0. Navy moved up to No. 17 in the IWLCA Poll and is receiving votes in the media poll. Army West Point is also receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE AMONG NCAA DI LEADERS
*American junior attacker Emma Vinall leads NCAA DI in goals per game, averaging 5.75 through five games.
*Lehigh senior midfielder Sondra Dickey is second in the nation with 5.25 goals per game through four games.
*Three Patriot League student-athletes are among the nation’s top-10 in assists per game, led by American senior midfielder Casey Harkins, who is fourth in the nation averaging 3.75 assists per game. Loyola Maryland junior attacker Livy Rosenzweig (3.33) is fifth and Lehigh freshman Gabby Schneider (3.25) is sixth.
*Vinall is third in NCAA DI in draw controls per game (9.00).
*Holy Cross sophomore goalkeeper Grace Flink is third in NCAA DI in save percentage (.635) while Loyola Maryland junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Larsson is fourth at .589.  
*Army West Point senior Maddie Burns (7.14) is fourth in NCAA DI in goals-against average while Lafayette junior Quinn Lacy (7.67) and Larsson (7.67) are tied for eighth.  
*AU’s tandem of Harkins (7.25) and Vinall (6.75) are second and fourth, respectively, in the NCAA in points per game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ATTACKER OF THE WEEK
Emma Vinall, American, Jr., Attacker, Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson
*Vinall finished the week with 12 goals, 16 draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in wins against George Washington (20-16) and LIU Brooklyn (18-12) to lead the Eagles’ to their best start in program history (5-0).
*She scored five goals and had 12 draw controls in a win against the Colonials.
*The junior attacker matched her career-high with seven goals to go along with four draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers against the Blackbirds.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE MIDFIELDER OF THE WEEK
Jillian Wilson, Loyola Maryland, So., Midfielder, Hampstead, Md./Gerstell Academy
*Wilson totaled four points on three goals and one assist while winning five draws, picking up two ground balls and causing three turnovers in Loyola Maryland’s 22-12 win over previously undefeated No. 19 Penn State.
*The sophomore midfielder held Penn State’s Quinn Nicolai without a goal and just two shots on the game.
*Wilson posted her third career hat trick.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Katie Detwiler, Loyola Maryland, So., Defender, Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll
*Detwiler matched her career-high with six draw controls while picking up two ground balls and causing one turnover to help the Greyhounds’ hand Penn State its first loss of the season in a 22-12 decision.
*She held the Nittany Lions’ leading scorer Maria Auth to just two goals in 55 minutes.
*Detwiler is tied for second on the Greyhounds with 20 draws this season.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Quinn Lacy, Lafayette, Jr., Goalkeeper, Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore
*Lacy stopped 24 shots, allowing 14 goals in Lafayette’s to help Lafayette go 1-1 last week with a 7-5 victory over Iona.
*The junior goalkeeper stopped 13 shots and allowed five goals while picking up three ground balls against the Gaels.
*Lacy stopped 11 shots and allowed nine goals against Binghamton.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE WOMEN’S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Gabby Schneider, Lehigh, Fr., Attacker, Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown Easts
*Schneider posted career-highs in goals (4) and points (9) while tying her career-high with five assists to help Lehigh defeat Monmouth, 17-13.
*The freshman attacker posted the most points by a Lehigh freshman since Courtney Henig tallied nine points in 2017.
*Schneider also picked up three ground balls in Lehigh’s win over the Hawks.

*Korpela racked up five ground balls and four caused turnovers to help Army West Point go 2-0 with wins against Monmouth (12-9) and Siena (16-10).

*Stewart finished with five goals, 16 draw controls and two ground balls to help the Black Knights go 2-0 with wins against Monmouth (12-9) and Siena (16-10).

*Cermack had four draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls in addition to one goal in Lehigh’s 17-13 victory against Monmouth.
