Patriot League Announces Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-League Team (3.4.20)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Lafayette junior guard Justin Jaworski was named the 2019-20 Patriot League Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to earning a spot on the five-member Academic All-Patriot League squad when honors were announced by the League office on Wednesday.
 
Jaworski makes the 2019-20 Academic All-Patriot League squad for the second time. Lehigh senior guard Jordan Cohen is the seventh men’s basketball student-athlete in League history to make the academic team three times. Bucknell sophomore guard Andrew Funk, Loyola Maryland senior forward KaVaughn Scott and Navy junior guard Cam Davis all received academic honors for the first time.
 
2019-20 Patriot League Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Justin Jaworski, Lafayette, Jr., G, Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley
*Jaworski, a two-time Academic All-Patriot League team selection is carrying a 3.75 GPA while majoring in economics.
*The junior guard received All-League honors for the second time, making the second team after finishing among the League’s leading scorers with 17.1 points per game and shooting 36 percent from 3-point range.
*Jaworski is fourth in Patriot League history in 3-point field goal percentage (.426) while having eclipsed 1,000 career points on Jan. 8 against Holy Cross.
 
2019-20 ACADEMIC ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE TEAM
Cohen, a two-time Third Team All-Patriot League selection, averaged 14.0 points and 4.3 assists while shooting .382 from long distance. Cohen is the first two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in Lehigh program history and a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award while carrying a 3.68 GPA as a finance major.

Davis earns his first Academic All-League distinction after being named Second Team All-Patriot League. The junior guard finished among the leading scorers in League play averaging 17.4 points per game. Davis also received CoSIDA Academic All-District honors with a cumulative GPA of 3.38 as an ocean engineering major.  
Funk makes his first Academic All-Patriot League squad after averaging 11.0 points and 3.9 rebounds along with posting a 3.60 cumulative GPA in Bucknell’s Freeman College of Management.  
Loyola Maryland senior forward KaVaughn Scott also received Academic All-League accolades for the first time. He averaged 8.8 points and 5.2 rebounds and has a cumulative GPA of 3.22 in finance. Scott is the Co-President of Loyola Maryland’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (GPA) and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
 
The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year winner for each sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for the honors.
