No. 1 Colgate and No. 3 Boston University Advance to Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game (3.8.20)

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – No. 1 Colgate and No. 3 Boston University advanced to the 2020 Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game on Wednesday, after both claiming victories in Sunday’s semifinal round.

The defending champion Raiders avenged a regular-season sweep by No. 5 Lafayette, earning an 89-64 win at Cotterell Court. The third-seeded Terriers withstood a second-half run from No. 7 Bucknell to win, 64-61, and make its first appearance in the Patriot League title game since its first year in the League in 2013-14.

Live coverage of Wednesday night’s Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game on CBS Sports Network will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET from Colgate’s Cotterell Court. BOSTON – Senior Max Mahoney and sophomore forward Walter Whyte both recorded double-doubles to help No. 3 Boston University hold off a second-half comeback attempt by No. 7 Bucknell in a 64-61 win the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinals.
*Mahoney recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He also added five assists and two steals. Whyte totaled 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with two blocks to lead the Terriers to their first League title game since the 2013-14 season, their first year in the Patriot League.
*Junior guard Javante McCoy added 12 points and a game-high eight assists.
*Bucknell senior guard Avi Toomer scored a game-high 23 points on 5-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc.
*The Terriers shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half to take a 35-22 lead into the half.
*Bucknell used a 13-4 run early in the second half to close within four points, 39-35, with 16:03 remaining in the game. 
*Mahoney scored the next four points and assisted a dunk from Whyte to extend the Terriers’ lead back to 10 points.
*Bucknell junior Jimmy Sotos’ layup brought the Bison within three points with 2:07 remaining in the game. Sotos finished with 10 points and three assists
*McCoy answered with 1:02 left to extend the lead back to five, helping seal the Terriers win.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior guard Jordan Burns led six Raiders in double figures as No. 1 Colgate defeated No. 5 Lafayette, 89-64, to advance to the Patriot League Championship Game for the third-consecutive season.
*Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Will Rayman posted his 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards. 
*The Raiders dominated the offensive glass, 19-10, leading to Colgate’s 22-6 advantage in second-chance points. *Freshman forward Keegan Records grabbed a game-high seven offensive rebounds to go along with 10 points.
*Junior guard Jack Ferguson (13), senior forward Rapolas Ivanauskas (12), sophomore guard Nelly Cummings (11) all scored in double figures for Colgate.
*Lafayette freshman center Neal Quinn finished with a career-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor while junior guard E.J. Stephens also scored 22 points.
*The Leopards shot 5-of-21 from 3-point range, after connecting on 40 percent (24-for-60) in their two regular-season wins against the Raiders.
