Patriot League Announces GEICO Women’s Basketball Players of the Week (1.19.21)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bucknell senior forward Tessa Brugler was named the Patriot League GEICO Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and Holy Cross guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy received rookie of the week when the League office announced the results on Tuesday.
 
American junior guard Jade Edwards, Colgate freshman guard Morgan Frank, Holy Cross junior forward Oluchi Ezemma, and Navy junior guard Jennifer Coleman all earned honorable mention recognition.
 
The Patriot League Women’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
 
Patriot League Player of the Week
Tessa Brugler, Bucknell, Sr., F, Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth
* Brugler finished the weekend with two double-doubles in a pair of wins over Lehigh to help Bucknell stay undefeated at 6-0 in Patriot League play.
* In Saturday’s 68-60 victory, the senior scored 12 points and pulled down a career-high 19 boards. She then totaled 12 points and 14 rebounds on Sunday as the Bison won 80-66 against the Mountain Hawks.
* Brugler went 7-of-8 (.880) at the foul line for the weekend, with a total of six assists and three blocks.
 
Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Bronagh Power-Cassidy, Holy Cross, Fr., G, Dublin, Ireland/Marianapolis Prep
* Power-Cassidy had pair of games in double figures in a 2-0 weekend against Colgate for Holy Cross while hitting the go-ahead free throw with three seconds remaining to give Holy Cross its fourth straight win on Sunday.
* In Saturday’s 77-48 victory, the freshman scored 13 points while also grabbing five rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists.
* In a 63-62 win on Sunday, Power-Cassidy had 16 points to lead the Crusaders, to go with a career-high eight rebounds.
 
Honorable Mentions
Jade Edwards, American, Jr., G, Chicago, Ill./The Latin School of Chicago
* Edwards continued to lead the Eagles offensively this past weekend, averaging 20.5 ppg during the weekend split at Navy, including a 25-point performance on Sunday for her second-highest career output.
* She currently leads the Patriot League with 22.0 points per game, 5.4 ppg above the next-highest scorer, and 3.8 steals per game (9th in Division I).
 
Morgan Frank, Colgate, Fr., G, Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein 
* Frank came off the bench to post her first career double-double Sunday with 12 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds in the 63-62 loss against Holy Cross.
 
Oluchi Ezemma, Holy Cross, Jr., F, Hope Valley, R.I./Moses Brown
* In a 77-48 win on Saturday, Ezemma was one of three players to post a team-leading 14 points; she also had seven rebounds. In Sunday’s 63-62 win, Ezemma recorded career highs in rebounds (17) and assists (4) while also chipping in 14 points for her second double-double of the year.
* She has averaged a double-double of 11.5 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s four-game winning streak.
 
Jennifer Coleman, Navy, Jr., G, Richmond, Va./Highland Springs
* Coleman averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals as the Mids went 1-1 in a series with American this weekend.
* She scored in double-figures in both games as she collected 16 points and 12 rebounds on Saturday, followed by a 17-point performance in the 70-67 win over the Eagles. She also tied her season-high with seven assists on Sunday.
