Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Announced (2.23.21)

Loyola Maryland’s Aldama wins third straight player of the week; Colgate’s Woodward picks up rookie honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola Maryland sophomore forward Santi Aldama claimed his third-consecutive Patriot League GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week when the League office announced weekly accolades on Tuesday. Colgate freshman center Jeff Woodward received rookie of the week honors for the first time.
 
Aldama collected GEICO Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the third-straight week after averaging 25.5 points and 12.5 rebounds to split a two-game series against Lehigh. The sophomore forward leads the League in rebounding (10.7) and is second in scoring (21.7) after posting four double-doubles in his last six games.
 
Woodward picked up his first GEICO Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week award by scoring in double figures in both of the Raiders’ wins Boston University over the weekend. The Audubon, Pa. native averaged 12.5 points and shot 75 percent (12-for-16) from the field to help Colgate extend its win streak to 10 games.
 
American senior guard Jamir Harris, Colgate senior guard Jordan Burns, Holy Cross senior guard Austin Butler, Lehigh freshman center Dominic Parolin and Navy junior guard Greg Summers all received an honorable mention for their performances during the weekend’s games.
 
The Patriot League men’s basketball players of the week are selected in a vote by League media members and each school’s sports information director, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.

PATRIOT LEAGUE GEICO MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

*Aldama averaged a double-double with 25.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 43 percent (6-for-14) from beyond the arc to help Loyola Maryland split a two-game series with Lehigh.
*The sophomore forward finished with 24 points, 18 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals in a loss to the Mountain Hawks on Sunday. He scored 27 points in 23 minutes to lead the Greyhounds to a 75-47 win over Lehigh on Saturday.
*Aldama is the only NCAA Division I player this season to average at least 17 points, 8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. He is one of only three to average 20 or more points and 10-plus rebounds per game.
 
PATRIOT LEAGUE GEICO MEN’S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Jeff Woodward, Colgate, Fr., C, Audubon, Pa./Methacton
*Woodward averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and shot 75 percent (12-for-16) from the floor to help Colgate sweep a weekend series from Boston University.
*He scored a career-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 82-72 win over the Terriers on Saturday.
*The freshman center went 5-for-5 from the floor for 10 points, dished out two assists and blocked one shot in the Raiders’ 78-63 victory over BU on Sunday.

*Harris averaged 22.0 points while shooting 44 percent (8-for-18) from 3-point range during a two-game weekend series against Navy.
*The senior guard posted his second 30-point performance of the season after connecting on 10-of-19 from the floor and 7-of-11 from deep on Sunday.

*Burns averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.5 steals to lead Colgate to a two-game sweep of Boston University over the weekend.
*The Preseason Player of the Year finished with 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists in Sunday’s 78-63 win over the Terriers while becoming the Raiders’ career leader in assists (485).

*Butler averaged a double-double with 20.7 points and 11.0 rebounds during a three-game week that saw the Crusaders go 1-2.
*The Latrobe, Pa. native recorded three-consecutive double-doubles, including a 23-point, 12-rebound performance in Sunday’s 67-51 win over Army West Point.

*Parolin recorded his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead Lehigh to a 76-72 victory over Loyola Maryland on Sunday.
*The freshman center shot 53 percent (8-for-15) from the floor for the Mountain Hawks during the two-game series with the Greyhounds.
 
Greg Summers, Navy, Jr., G, Ocoee, Fla./First Academy
*Summers averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals to lead Navy to a two-game sweep over American. He shot 70 percent (14-for-20) from the floor and 92 percent (12-for-13) from the charity stripe.
*He recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday’s 72-60 win over the Eagles.
