No. 2 Colgate Hosts No. 9 Loyola Maryland for Patriot League Men’s Basketball Title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 2021 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Game is set with No. 2 Colgate hosting No. 9 Loyola Maryland at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y. on Sunday, March 14. Live coverage begins at noon on CBS Sports Network with Jason Knapp and Mo Cassara providing the call.
 
The game can also be heard nationally via Westwood One, with Brandon Gaudin and Kyle Macy calling the action.
 
The Raiders became the first Patriot League men’s basketball program to advance to the championship game in four consecutive seasons after defeating No. 6 Bucknell, 105-75. Colgate’s 105 points broke a Patriot League Championship record that they had set in 1997.
 
The Greyhounds will play for the Patriot League title for the first time since joining the League in 2013-14. Loyola Maryland is also the first No. 9 seed to advance to the championship game since Holy Cross accomplished the feat in 2016.

Season Series: Loyola Maryland and Colgate did not meet during the 2020-21 regular season.
All-Time Series: Colgate and Loyola Maryland have met 16 times with the Raiders holding a 10-6 advantage. The Raiders are 7-3 against the Greyhounds since 2016, though Loyola Maryland won the last meeting, 84-80, on Feb. 16, 2020 at Reitz Arena. Santi Aldama led the way with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Postseason History: The Greyhounds and Raiders have not previously met in postseason play.
About Loyola Maryland:  Loyola Maryland has defeated No. 4 Army West Point (67-63) and top-seed Navy (76-68) to become the first No. 9 seed to advance to the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Championship Semifinals since Holy Cross accomplished the feat in 2016. Sophomore forward Santi Aldama has averaged a double-double with 24.0 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting .500 (5-for-10) from long distance in two tournament games.  Sophomore guard Cam Spencer has been impactful, averaging 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting .714 (5-for-7) from 3-point range. The Greyhounds are shooting .542 (58-for-107) from the floor and .425 (17-for-40) from long distance during the Patriot League Championships.
About Colgate: No. 2 Colgate broke a Patriot League Championship single-game scoring record with 105 points in a semifinal victory over No. 6 Bucknell to become the first team to advance to the Patriot League Championship Game in four consecutive seasons (2018-21). The Raiders also defeated No. 7 Boston University, 77-69, in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the 2020 championship game. Senior guard Jordan Burns (17.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.0 apg) and sophomore center Keegan Records (16.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 bpg) have led a balanced scoring offense  through two tournament games to help Colgate average 91.0 points per game and a +19.0-point scoring margin. Senior guard Jack Ferguson is averaging 14.0 points off the bench while shooting .556 (5-for-9) from 3-point range.
